Jaws, Alien and Jurassic park have very little monster time too.

But the build up to it is amazing and the characters were amazing and the directors didnt bait us with promising a great monster scene and then cutting from it.

all the characters in Jaws, Alien and Jurassic park were great on their own, they could carry their own movies, you could watch their own spin off because they were so cool. it was almost like the monster is a bonus in an already great movie.
And when the monster is revealed it is great and majestic.

Gino14 has worthless characters that you barely care about.... the lead is horrible and makes you lose interest. Even the beautiful Elizabeth Olsen is completely wasted, there are not stakes in the story, you dont care who dies, the best actor of the movie is wasted early on.
Take out godzilla from the movie and it is the WORST, LAMEST soldier movie ever made................thats exactly the problem. thats why the 98 movie failed so bad too

I Swear if zilla 98 was a great movie, a great plot with great characters, I Swear people would have embraced the new look of godzilla.... if they gave us a "Jaws" kind of movie I swear people would have not only accepted that new godzilla but loved it too.

the reason i dislike gino14 so much is because by the time the monsters fight you dont even care anymore, the best actor of the movie is gone, and all those bait scenes of the monsters about to fight just pisses you off and takes the build up away.

imagine if they teased us with the t rex for an entire hour and they never show it till the end...... imagine if they erase the attack on the cars scene and just teased you with the car attack but then they cut to the car being in the tree already.....
Imagine they never show him eating the lawyer. imagine they never show the t rex chasing the jeep but only HINTED that the t rex was chasing the jeep............
who would like that?

Should of took out the whole ****** army aspect. Should of put in civilians being affected by Godzilla and the damage he caused. No other monsters , no military story. Just Godzilla recking havoc .

The very first sdcc trailer did so well in capturing this. It was bleak , dark and ominous. The voice over was chilling. It was absolutely fantastic. Why they chose to go for more of a action hero movie is beyond me. The complete waste of Heisenberg is also a huge head scratcher as it was marketed as him being the main character.

Even Heisenberg questioned his characters fate. He was the heart of the story. Really bizarre decision.

That first trailer was so good. I still watch it from time to time. They marketed it as a remake of the original film but gave us a Showa movie. I wonder who's decision that was.

It's hard for me to be mad at the film though. That airport roar is just so good. I love blasting it through my sound system and rattling my sliding glass door :lol

Damn crows hates G14 like Chakor hates Grace. :lol

G14 takes pages out of JAWS, Jurassic Park and Alien, and while being no where near as good or up to the standard of those classics, I give it some credit for trying to be something in the realms of an old school monster movie with the slow reveal of the monster throughout, even if it that choice didn't resonate well with the audience.

Put in an hour of shiny colours, loud Bayformers explosions, monsters destroying buildings and it would have been right up Jye's alley for a steel book purchase.:lol

Even with all its issues around human characters and lack of G man himself, I loved the build-up to his first entrance, the airport scene, the bridge scene, the atomic breath moments and the final battle in general. Godzilla himself was a badass and I felt myself feeling bad for the MUTOs.

I heard talks of an extended cut years back but it never came to be. I was disappointed the shot of the male MUTO swooping down from the trailer wasn't in the final movie.

So literally cloverfield.
Because thats literally what cloverfield did. And the monster scenes were little but amazing.

It is not hate but extreme dissapointment and extreme let down.

For all the giant budget and the A list star cast and the expensive special effects the movie is not that good

The asian movie The Host is much better for half the budget. That movie is wayy better. So much better than this one...it delivers what this one failed to do

I have extreme hate for the director. The studio let him do what he wanted and he literally said he preferred never showing godzilla and all the bait scenes were on purpose because he wanted a movie where people wanted to see the monster so much but u never see it

The thing with this movie is maybe there's only 20 minutes of monsters...but every shot is a winner. They filmed the monsters beautifully. Even with the detractors proclaiming it was too dark to see anything. Which is an issue of individual circumstance not the film itself.

G14 sets a bar for Kaiju cinematography in my book and Shin continued that aesthetic. Some of the best composed images of Godzilla came out of those 2 movies.

yeah i can agree one that. the creatures looked great and godzilla looked really great.
it is just everything else that fails, including how godzilla was used

IF the director worried LESS about teasing the audience and worried Less about baiting people with scenes of the monsters about to fight godzilla and just made the final fight longer the movie would have been better.

The director worried SO much about teasing and baiting the audience that he only made the final fight last like 10 minutes.....
which everyone was mad about.

I would have to agree with crows about 14 but his atomic breath scene still kicks ***.

we didnt have to suffer 2 hours to enjoy that.
thats like eating 2 bags of sand to get a cherry at the end of the second bag..............................

Who’s the marketing guru that convinced you to eat 2 bags of sand? :lol

my love for monsters did that............................
whats funny is that the director did the same with Darth Vader, literally the same. Thank God disney stepped in and made those reshoots.

CAn you magine Rogue one without Vader attacking all those people at the end.??????????? can you IMAGINE? because thats literally what the director wanted

I thought it was some guy on Edwards team who pitched it? Then they both went to Kennedy and she said yes.

didnt the first cut of the movie not have Vader like that at the end?

I'm not sure. It's been a bit since I read about all that stuff. I'll have to check it out.

Here we go. It was done in during the re-shoots for sure, But it wasn't about Edwards not wanting it. It just wasn't on the table

In the original scene as it was written, Vader never appeared on the ship, but the film’s editor Jabez Olssen came up with the idea only a few months before the movie hit theaters. Gareth explained how the scene ended up happening:

He arrives and obliterates the Calamari ship, and then the blockade runner gets out just in time and he pursues the blockade runner. And then Jabez was like, ‘I think we need to get Darth on that ship,’ and I thought, yeah, that’s a brilliant idea and would love to do it, but there’s no way they’re going to let us do it. It’s a big number and we had, what, like 3 or 4 months before release. Kathy [Kennedy] came in and Jabez thought, f–k it, and pitched her this idea, and she loved it. Suddenly within a week or two we were at Pinewood shooting that scene.

Who knows if that's the real story. :dunno I bet Snikt knows :lol

Lol as disappointing as it was I still liked it s little. Godzilla looked great imo and I still watch the reveal from time to time as it’s the best reveal I’ve ever seen in a Godzilla movie
