This is what happens when a person watches too much LOTR. :lecture

no one ever said this. i said people with the last name Patel are most likely, if not always Hindu. i didn't say all Indians are Hindu..that's just not true. :monkey1

That wasn't the post I was referencing. This one was:

what's really strange to me, is that from what i know about hinduism, is the huge promotion of peace. so it's strange to see a hindu man charged of two first degree murders...very unusual.

Not that it matters. Alleigances to race, nation, and religion are overrated, and not exactly important.

But you assumed he was a hindu though, just because he is Indian

no. i assumed he was Hindu, because of his name, Patel. Patel is Hindu name. Ask any Indian person (specifically a Hindu Indian) and they'll tell you Patel is a Hindu name.

if it was just a picture, with no name, i'd figure he's Indian, but i'd have no idea what religion he is. since it says his name, Patel, i know that he is Hindu. :lecture

And religion is a system of belief. You don't inherit it with your name. It's not genetic. It's chosen.

religion is a choice, but the majority of the time, people are too stupid to realize this, and devote themselves to the religion they were born into. and often their family name correlates with the family's religion.

The day you start looking like Gollum, you will have watched it too many times too.

Well, I've watched it quite a........wait a second.....

::hack gol-lum gol-lum hack::

as we were sayinges, we've watched them quite a bitses and we doesn't look like this, precious!

Just curious if you read the link.

I did. The idea that capitalism can function without government is dumb.

Interesting that you think that. Obviously they don't think it's dumb. And there presentation sounds good:

15. How would anarcho-capitalism work?
In one sense, this is easy to answer. Since most people are familiar with capitalism, one could simply say, "Just like today's semi-capitalist societies, except with no coercive monopolies." As already noted, most services currently provided by State have been done voluntarily in the past, usually with better quality and service than the State. This is what you'd expect, since monopolies lack the usual competitive incentives to improve. The services that people have not seen provided privately, such as court, police, and defense against military invasion, require more explanation...
And then it goes on to describe how it might work through privatized law enforcement.

Just goes to show that one can be very sure that their philosophy is sound and well thought out, but not everyone will agree, and in fact it might not truly be sound.

This includes my philosophy and yours.

Pol Pot was a graduate student at the University of Paris, with doctorates in philosophy and economics. I'm sure his plan for Cambodia was extremely well thought out and articulate. Didn't particularly matter though, did it? How sound was it, really?

Reality is the final arbiter of that which is true and that which is not. Reality, only.
