An elderly man who owns 36 acres of land prefers living life without electricity and running water. He says he’s a country boy and wouldn’t have it any other way and “just wants to be left alone”. But the County Government wants to throw him off his land for living life “too simply”. Everyone has different opinions so I was wondering what some of your thoughts are on this subject. Some say it’s just the Government using bulling and Big Brother tactics to control and dictate his life and others have their own theories and opinions. I for one feel bad for him and wish they would leave him alone since he isn’t bothering anybody. Let him live his life the way he wants to in his last years.

This is why the U.S. will not be the Superpower we were ever again. Were trying to fix our economy by making a single man who'll be dead in 10 years pay for HBO.

l don't know what the hell is wrong with that county. don't these people have more important things to worry about. there nothing but bullies.

they have an agenda. they probably want his ass off that land so they can sell it to someone else who will bring power and build more buildings on the property, then have to pay more taxes, and power and what ever else. so in the end l think the government wants him gone because there not making any money off him because (he lives to simply).

not sure if this guy owns the property, if so, he should build a tiny house, that's it. there no law you need running water or electricity, just a building with an address. that's it.

Keep in mind, it's not the US gov't, it's the County (accd to the orig. poster). Also, what's the basis for taking his land? I don't think I read on what basis the local govt is seizing his property.

yes l would like to know if they are making him SELL, or if they are booting him, then seizing.

meh. seems fair. if he doesn't want to be part of society, maybe he should move to an underdeveloped, slum nation like Canada.

your right,. he should move here to Canada were the government would never of done this to him. they treats us fair for the most part, we have free health care and jobs. he would be better off with us here.:cuckoo:

that's cuz everybody lives like that up there. if they wanted to start evicting people, they wouldn't know where to start.

wow, everyone lives in the woods here in Canada huh. calling Canada an underdeveloped slum, shows how ignorant you are. oh and are government wouldn't even need to come looking for us because they wouldn't be treating us the way your people are treated.

My own ire in this is twofold...and might seem contradictory.

1) This man has to obey the laws.

2) Voters are the pathetic ones for allowing laws like this to come in to being. Voters have the power to stop this. But they are weak-minded.

Fighting this has to come down to voters demanding the laws to be repealed. It is beyond ludicrous.

take off eh?

Although I grew up in the U.S., I was 17 miles south of the Canadian border. These two gentlemen were my biggest role models as I was growing up. I will always have a special place in my heart for them.
