Question:

I'm a good ways into Fallout3, and I'm wondering if I should or could do any of the add on content yet or should I wait til I'm at the very end?

I think you should wait. The add-on content like Broken Steel are only relevant after the end of Fallout 3. In other words, the add-ons are only there to expand your gameplay experience, after you've completed the game.

So far, I like Fallout 3. But, I'll wait and see how my experience goes before I decide to invest some cash on additional content.

I thought someone said before, that it wasn't completely open ended....you couldn't play the add on content after you beat the main quest?

It's the opposite. The main game without the add-ons has a definite ending. Once you reach that point in the storyline, something happens that effectively ends your character's ability to wander the wastelands post-ending.

However, if you download the Broken Steel DLC, the level cap gets raised from 20 to 30 and something new happens AFTER you finish the last storyline quest that gives you the ability to roam around freely after the game is completed. Well worth the price.

The only caveat I will make is that you should be careful about when you download Broken Steel. It adds a new, more powerful variant of each enemy type (ghoul, giatn scorpion, super mutant), and these are RIDICULOUSLY hard to take down, even at the highest levels.

Since the enemies level up with you, they are especially difficult at higher levels. I bought the GOTY edition and loved it - hundreds of hours of gameplay there and I still haven't started The Pitt, yet.

Sounds like you're concentrating primarily on the story missions. The story missions only take about 20-30 hours to complete; it's the side quests that can add an extra 100+ hours to your game.

Fallout 3 amazing. I'm actually enjoying it more than when I first played Half Life 2. Definitely going to waste my time finishing everything, when classes are done with this semester.

Hmm, it just feels like there would never be 100 plus hours there...

That's because you're not exploring every nook and cranny of the gameworld. The sheer number of side-quests is staggering. And even once you're done all the quests the game has to offer, there are STILL things you can do, especially if you're somewhat OCD like me.

For example, did you know you can steal the clothing from kids and have your character wear them? You have to use a trick called reverse-pickpocketing and it doesn't work with every single item of children's clothing, but you'd be amazed what your adult character can wear. A 6-foot man in footy pyjamas with a mini-nuke launcher equals all kinds of cool.

Then there are all the unique weapons and clothing you can get from specific characters in the game, all the weapons you can create and upgrade with blueprints, unique one-of-a-kind items to find and decorate your home with, etc...

It's no 300+ hour Morrowind, but you can easily kill 100-200 hours with Fallout 3.

I just want to complete every quest that gives me an achievement. The like 3rd tier quests that are just filler I have no interest in.

More power to you, then. I recommend you try to complete the Agatha's Song sidequest at some point, as the quest reward is quite good if you're not greedy. For some of the best armour available, make sure you do the Reilly's Rangers sidequest, too.

Other things worth tracking down are Lincoln's .44 repeater (probably the most powerful firearm in the game), the Terrible Shotgun and Lefleur's (might be off on the name) Hockey Mask. And make sure you pick only the prime numbers on the terminals in the technology museum - you'll miss out on the most powerful assault rifle if you make a single mistake.

There are not rewarding missions that worth to complete them. If I remember well there is one small idealistic place south of Megaton with 2 families and an old man. One of the best game moments.

If you're talking about Andale, then I totally agree. What an interesting and disturbing location to accidentally stumble into...

Yes, that's it, Andale. I saved my game and said I'm going to discover what's happening here, and man later I prefered not to know :lol

I just started on the quest to go to Lincoln Memorial...

I have one quest left for the main quests. If I do that and beat the game...I can still play all the other quests as well as the add on content right? I'm already over level 20.

Yes. If you downloaded Broken Steel you should be able to continue playing past the final story mission. It's still a good idea to keep a few saves handy, though. Just in case.
