My thoughts on Looper and why I traveled eight hours to another city to watch it
Yep, as linked above, I also did it for Looper last year as they released only a dubbed Hindi version in our city instead.
Now we have a better multiplex Cinepolis, but still no IMAX.
I have been going to theatres on my own and with my friends since I was about 11 years old. And I know for many now, cinema experience doesn't amount to much. Besides reading comics, hobby of collecting and watching movies/TV at home, going to the theatres is still one of my favourite ways to enjoy movies and it is the thing that lets me to get transported to another world, so I still love that cinema experience. And I will continue to do it, no matter how big of a home theater setup I get.
Some movies which I have been anticipating for so long, if it doesn't make it to my city I won't mind traveling. But that rarely happens these days, as we got a good multiplex now and most movies arrive here, though some later than others.
This traveling plan is something similar to when some of the international bands comes to India and will be playing in selected two to four big cities, fans if want to enjoy the live experience have to travel.
Of course, I know hardly anyone will do it for movies, but this is important to me, so I don't mind spending the time and money for it.
When Gravity went into production, I was reading on how the director was approaching the design and cinematography, making it optimized for IMAX. And I knew then I was going to make sure to see it in IMAX. And judging by these reviews, that's the best way to experience it.
And to think, some of you guys can easily see it in your local IMAX theatres, but are skipping it due to the actress or subject matter. Ah..the joys and amenities of living in a first world country
.
(Of course I understand their reasoning for not seeing it
).
