Are you of all people gonna lecture me on *****ing about a film? :rotfl

Yes. Me of all people. Especially me of all people. I'm not going to play that lame *** game about "who has the better taste" that so many ****wads on this site try and do. But I have to shake my head sometimes. It's your opinion, and you're totally free to express it.

But you sure do have a lot of problems with movies that mostly everyone loves, and you tend to hate them for the exact reason why everyone loves them.

Thanks for your opinion. :peace

I had a feeling it might not be what it was made out to be. Let me guess, all the action was revealed in the trailer right? Anymore the trailers are better than the films, and they give away the entire 3 acts.

No, not all of it. If anything there is too much action and not enough character development. I never felt like outside of one moment I cared about them. If anything I cared because I liked the actors which shouldn't be the #1 reason. The camera movement was annoying as well and I just didn't think there was much of a story there. It was pretty much one **** sandwich for one of the characters after another.

I think most of that was the goal of the movie lol
As far as character development. Bah. I'm glad this was the kind of the movie, that just got to it's point, and got into the chaos right away. When that stuff is happening, there is no time to reflect and flesh out characters, who are doing nothing but surviving this one moment, alone, in space. All you should care about is, are they going to make it?

If they went ahead and had to do the typical flashback scenes and all that crap, it would have been just like every other movie.
The little facts that we DID get when they were talking, and what we learned about her character was enough.

That became her main reason to NOT GIVE UP. In my opinion.

Whoosh...saw it myself today....and...

It literally evaporated as I left the theater. Once again I'm left scratching my head over the overwhelming critical and audience praise a movie gets and how more often than not, I'm not as impressed as everyone else (or just as often the opposite happens)...

I'm not saying this movie was bad...it just didn't do anything for me other than leave me slightly nauseous from the constant camera movement...no emotion, no sense of grandeur or wonder. Technically, it's a marvel...the effects are stunning, the production is amazing but...it left me feeling I'd just sat through a really impressive effects reel, nothing more.

I liked Clooney....he was effortless and convincing as a veteran astronaut...capable and efficient but not jaded about the wonder of what he was doing. Bullock on the other hand....just didn't buy her as a scientist/engineer...not for a minute. It wasn't totally her fault as an actor....the script places the character in some situations where what she does simply defy logic, especially with someone that should've had more training in that situation (6 months? Really?)
Once things stopped spinning (literally), she just stops the movie dead...and the last 10 minutes or so....sorry, I had already checked out.

Part of the problem for me was reading too much about the movie before I went...all of the critical praise just made it sound so revolutionary and....it just wasn't...not for me anyway.

If you're a genre fan and you appreciate great visuals and a good production than yes...this is definitely worth seeing on a big screen.
Just lower your expectations and leave all of the critical chatter behind and just enjoy it for what it is....not the next step in cinema it's being proclaimed as, but just a great piece of 90 minute eye-candy...

That's my two cents anyway...

Sorry, I kind of like character development. :dunno I just never felt like I gave a crap if they died or not. I also didn't think they gave us much in the way of facts. We know she has a family issue but that's it.

I get some of you really enjoyed it. I thought it sucked. It's near the very bottom if the movies I've seen this year.

Just got back from seeing this.

This isn't a movie as much as it is a 3D experience, or even a ride. There really isn't much context to it. It's a survival story at its core.

However - this is truly something special, and is meant to be experienced in theaters. The visual effects and sound mixing are absolutely breathtaking and takes on a life of its own in the film. Very intense and stressful film, but totally worth the 90 minute running time.

This movie is full of character development. And easily one of the best films all year. A goddamn masterpiece.

still...this monkeys were far more entertaining than the movie.

I love that shot of Stone curled up in a fetal position in the round air lock chamber with the tubes running all along her body. She was safe in the womb. When she emerged from the escape capsule at the end, that was basically her being born into this world. She gasps at the air, and breaths for the first time. On the nose. But still cool.

The 3D and the visual effects are outstanding. Curon knows how to use technology in the RIGHT way. Unlike Cameron and Jackson. This is the future of visual effects and 3D. Not Avatar 24.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This is one of the best thrill rides I've been on in a while. If you gave me moving seats, it might end up being the best. :lol.

The sound design was fantastic. The destruction scenes without any sound really made the whole thing feel more terrifying then I thought possible. When the debris cloud was slowly advancing on Stone, and the music slowly creeps in....I got chills.

Also, George Clooney is badass, and Ed Harris is the best Huston voice ever.

I'd like to catch this one more time in theaters. What a ride. Easily in my top 5 of the year.

Honestly, it sounds some are overly critical - I can go see a movie and just enjoy the experience. Some need a life changing event or some such thing.

If the original SW came out today, but with updated FX, I seriously doubt it would pass muster with all the couch critics out there now....everyone on the NET knows better than everyone else...or at least, that's how it comes across to me

I can't win for losing. :lol I'm either easy to please, an apologist, and now overly critical. :lol

I figured I'd toss that comment out there. :lol based on what I've seen I understand I'm mostly alone with this movie. That's ok with me. I don't mind running solo.

I felt it was a good film! A great one to watch in 3D. Maybe nothing life changing but still fun to watch on the big screen. The sense of helplessness the film portrayed for its characters is what made some its moments intense for me. Some of which I thought to myself, "That would suck if I were in that exact predictament!"

You're no running solo, Josh...I posted my thoughts on it yesterday...

Again, I'm not saying this is a "bad" movie....it's more a case of people seeing something in it (eg: emotional connection/content) I didn't. Happens with movies all the time...there were a few movies this summer that I really enjoyed that got gang-raped in here (I'll leave 'em nameless to avoid starting up those battles again)...this movie is just another one of those...DOA for me, but really connecting with other folk. Happens all the time.... :)
