Watching GOTG now on FX... much better movie.

The thing this team needs desperately for vol. 3 is a strong villain that can challenge the bonds of these 'friends'. That's the threat -- breaking up the team.

Unfortunately, in 20 movies (or whatever its been) Feige and the MCU seem incapable of creating or casting a truly threatening and wonderfully despicable villain. Their array of super-villains are not even as memorable as the horrible clowns of the old Batman movies of the 90's.

Ego was just stupid lol :lol

Kind of like most slasher villains - they're there, they're just evil, they just kill because they want to. :lol Though some do have more "developed" character arcs.

To be honest, I wasn't really that wild over Ego. Loki is still my #1.

They need a better mission as well. A high stakes mission that not necessarily is about saving the universe but is about something important.

Thats another thing that i hated about this is when Rocket says " we are two time saviors of the universe!!!"

But Ego felt like a dumb threat.

They saved that plot device for the Avengers with Zemo breaking up the team leading up to IW.

Ego's growing rock threat was really stoopid lol

As long as there's a team, there can always be a new threat to break them up. That's the point -- a team is like family, and the threat is always to destroy the family.

Gunn knows this. He went for something different. Again, to me, GOTG2 is like subplot heaven with no A-story. Nothing driving it along, threatening to upset the subplots.

A and B stories need to conflict and twist like DNA strands and really effect each other. BTTF is such a beautiful example of how well it can work when constructed correctly.

That giant alien blob was first used before in the movie Evolution:

It was just as dumb back then

The alien blob scene was stupid. When Quinn said he was going to be a pac-man that was funny. When he actually became a pac-man to fight Ego when he was a giant rock man that was stupid. Egos brain deep in the planet looked like 80s era special effects.

The ending very much reminded me of Green Lantern. Random CG blob attacks city while the hero turns himself into silly things to fight the supposedly unstoppable yet easily defeatable villain.

He's a god yet has no meaning unless he covers everything we love with CGI? So he's basically George Lucas? As bad as Marvel villains have been overall they really hit a low point with Ego.

Ego's mother cation was the same as Star Lord's not to be alone the in the universe. He made children all over the galaxy for the sole purpose of having someone to share his life and power with. Like Al Pacino in Devils Advocate. It worked for a while, Peter liked the idea of having a father and play ball with, but growing up with his mother he loved her more. Ego was all about himself and wanted Peter for himself with seeds all over the galaxy.

I kinda wish what came out of the ground was clones, giant clones of him or something like that. Or weird animal creatures or killer plants or something.

The blob might be the most idiotic in a marvel movie yet

I will say that Russell did a great job though. He really was just vintage Kurt and didn't ham up any of his scenes. And I truly was surprised about the source of all the skeletons. The thought that they were all his other kids was the furthest thing from my mind. So kudos for a good twist at least.

What, you didn't see that coming?

Because it was his private retreat? I'm not sure what you're thinking was so obvious. If I see somebody with private property my mind doesn't instantly assume that there must be a bunch of murdered children buried on the premises but that's just me.

Maybe you guys are over-thinking a comic book movie just a tad bit.

Im tired of people using "comic book movie" as an excuse for things wrong with it.
This is a big studio hundred+ million blockbuster summer movie released WorldWide.... this aint barney the dinosaur.

Even thought this is a comedy, this is still a marvel movie..

Disney princess 'villains have better stories and motivations than Ego did... Gaston is a better villain than most marvel ones :lol
