I love interactive crowds.

Cool, an interactive CD ROM!

I think most of us would agree that GOTG is faring better than many expected, most likely including those at Marvel. But personally, I don't call something a sleeper success unless it's relatively small to begin with, and as pointed out, Marvel threw their whole marketing machine at this one with commercials, product tie-ins, etc. I can't tell you how many junk e-mails I've received from Sideshow and Go Hastings hocking their GOTG stuff over the last few weeks. Maybe they still expected only a modest return on that investment, but I think they were really shooting for what we're seeing here. So it's not like, say, Brick or Memento, which are these little indie movies that somehow make exponentially more than they cost to make.

Yeah, Khev has been smoking some Groot with Adolfo.

It's 5 day total has surpassed Winter Soldier's. I'll be curious to see next week's totals.

GTFO wow

Exactly. Part of the reason I love attending opening night shows is that, as a viewer, you kind of feed off of the energy of the crowd, and it adds to the enjoyment of the movie, but, as Kara said, there's a difference between an enthusiastic crowd and people just being ignorant. I also think that it depends on the type of movie, as well.

Well there's definitely a distinction between a crowd enthusiastically into a movie, like you would see during a Riff Trax or Jackass movie, and annoying little pissants constantly talking to each other and on the cell phone, so you can't concentrate on anything going on.

I worry more about getting shot in a movie than I do yapping girls.

this is the point, exactly.

one thing is for the whole crowd to laugh or something, but another thing is for 2-3 friends talking non stop and making dumb jokes or comments the entire movie.

If you say something they get more encouraged. If you tell a manager or something you have to get up and miss part of the movie, And sometimes either the manager doesn't come or comes 20 later. Either way it becomes a miserable experience

I must either have the worst luck in the world or live around annoying people because whenever I tried to watch a movie on opening weekend it was never a great experience.

I just read up on the definition of "sleeper hit" when it comes to film and it appears that a major requirement is that it NOT have a successful opening weekend. Just average or subpar but then the movie just hangs around forever and ends up making a ton of money by the end of its run. I actually can get behind that definition which would clearly disqualify GOTG as it had the biggest opening in August history. :lol

Okay, moving along then. Nothing to see here.

CD ROM anyone?

That rarely happens at movies I see, though, thankfully. Also, I'm glad I don't live where JYE does so I have to worry about gang violence in the theater or whatever!

How often do you go to the movies?

I'd say for every 8 visits I'll experience some annoying attendees one time on occasion, not every time I go though. I've seen Guardians of the Galaxy twice now and didn't have any problems with a full house. Before that, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was good too.

There were some ****ers on their phone texting or playing games during the purge, but I simply moved up a row so I couldn't see the glow of their screen.

I guess it must be my area then

Nope, it can be pretty bad in NY, depends on when you go though. I try to IMAX at midnight or matinee for the big summer blockbuster movies because the crowd is usually filled with fans that will only make the experience better.

Finally saw this tonight and I really enjoyed it. Some of the humor was forced but I was surprised at how many lines had me laughing. I tried to stay away from spoilers and only saw a couple trailers before I saw it. It was a nice change to be surprised at some of the stuff that popped up instead of waiting for things I'd already seen happen. I wish there would have been some deeper background on some of the characters and the Nova Corps--I didn't like that they reduced back stories to a few sentences told by each character but there was already quite a bit crammed in so I get it. Overall I think it's a great movie and I can't wait to see more of the Marvel cosmic universe.

I found it very funny, but I must admit I was a tad bias :lol
and Yes, more cosmic Marvel please :lecture

Saw it for the 4th time yesterday. All I want is more!

Although the more I see it, the more I want Ronan to just bust a move at the end. It would have taken the piss to another level, but it would have been truly brilliant.

I have to say, Rocket's drunken tirade and his sobbing
over Groot
were incredible. They managed to get so much characterization out of him, particularly with those two scenes. He definitely felt the most well rounded and interesting.
