Just saw it with my 11-year-old son and he said it was awesome. I enjoyed it. It was definitely not robots fighting monsters for two hours. In fact, there was a good 45 minutes or so between the fight in the prologue and the next big battle. So if you are not sure about watching two hours of action, I can tell you that's not what this movie is all about. However, the two big action sequences are well done, although the climax doesn't quite surpass the one around the halfway point.

Ok, just got back.

Finally, finally, finally a giant monster movie where I actually cared about the characters.

The characters and story was the biggest surprise for me regarding this movie.

I was expecting for them to be secondary to the giant mayhem, they were not.

Loved all of the main characters, yes, even the 2 scientists. They were great actually.

I actually enjoyed the characters more than the battles, i'll explain below why.

Japanese chicks are cool, nuff said.

Things were not perfect though.

Many parts of battles should've been pulled back more, very hard to see what was going on, especially in the dark and rain, forget the ocean battle, couldn't see anything.

Having the final battle in the ocean was a bad idea, it ruined what should've been a jaw dropping scene with seeing a category 5 monster for the first time.

I get what they were trying to do, look everyone, Godzilla never had a battle as elaborate as this under water.

It failed.

The monster designs were mostly all poorly shown, like Irish said, the quick day battle in Sydney was best.

I did like the Otachi monster in HK having a triple split jaw like Nomak in Blade 2.

I also liked seeing the vampire character Rush from Blade 2 working for Hannibal.

I also like the scale of the Kaiju during the Tokyo battle.

That little girl was an amazing actress, great performance there.

That being said, the sound design was a little to loud and sharp during that scene.

Just because it's a big monster does it mean the sound needs to hurt your ears.

I don't mind heavy bass, but lower the highs a tad bit.

Speaking of the bass, the 2 big explosions at the end had the best bass I've ever heard in a theater.

Anyways, for part 2, my only recommendation would be to pull back on the action, more daylight battles and show off the monsters more and Godzilla will have to work very hard as the only giant monster in town.

The stuff inbetween the battles was just as good as the battles, in a giant monster movie!

BTW, there are enough battles in this movie, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Oh well, the budget can only go so far on the first movie.

It was a fun time, better than MOS.

But now I am pumped for Godzilla.

Great review sounds like the only thing missing is the Hulk fighting in the film

:exactly::goodpost: I agree with pretty much everything. Although I didn't have a prob;em with the sound at all.

I do agree that the whole reveal of the Category 5 Kaiju and what it was capable of was slightly ruined by the underwater fight. BUT
That moment when the Crocodile looking Kaiju goes for Gipsy and they cut it in half, was totally worth it. I especially liked how after Striker Eureka detonates, the explosion is so massive it pushes back all the water! But I would have liked to see more of the Striker v Slattern fight take place on land or at least above water.

So did I, Mr. Jye. So did I.

And this movie is impossible for me to pick apart, because it's just so damn nice and happy, why the **** should I? Nothing in this movie states "TAKE ME SERIOUSLY." It's a ride.

Not to dismiss the people who didn't care for the film. That's alright. Except for Apone, who can go to to hell. Soulless *******.

One more thing, I didn't buy that Raleigh didn't know about the sword but Mako did.

I took the swords to be new additions. He had been gone for 5 years? Long enought to replace the missing arm, and repair the damage. I figured it was something done under Stacker's orders to give Gipsy more weapons.

I guess he didn't have enough time to learn of its existence because of how he was deployed and the first time out Mako froze.

Bat-thoughts by batfan08: dis movie is da amazement. I go all :horror wen I c da big robos punch punch zaparoo da big mostrs. I iz also lik how da sword turnz dat mostr in2 Kaijushi.

In all seriousness, though, I loved the film. It was probably my second favorite film of this year, thus far. The fights were extremely gratifying, and the fantastic animation brought the to life in an equally extreme way. The 3D conversion was fantastic, and it was one of the best 3D experiences I've had at the movies. I felt like The Riddler's boss in Batman Forever when I saw the fish popping out of the screen with the water in the first 10 minutes.

It had a solid story that didn't stall. It told you what you needed to know, and got you from point A to point B. The performances from everyone involved were really good, but I've got to agree with the majority and say that Idris Elba was just a badass mofo. Also, Rinko Kikuchi was hawt.:lecture:lol

in the sequel they should have a Jaeger that looks like him.

I'll forgive the sword thing, because it made for such an awesome moment.

I'm not even going to justify it, or come up with a fake in film reason for it. :lol It was just so badass that I wouldn't change a thing.

Plus...give more props to Charlie Day! Dude acted!

What did you think of the 3D conversion, I thought it was good.

Yes, I enjoyed it. I am a big fan of 3D, though, so I was looking forward to it. More fun than the 3D were the D-Box seats that vibrated and swerved and leaned, etc. It was just a really fun and engaging experience during the battle scenes.
