I just think Tom is a super smart guy, so if anything it's a compliment I am surprised he would post that.

I was definitely far, far from being serious. I was just trying to be tongue in cheek and inject some hyperbole into the thread. I'm not actually that emotionally invested in the financial success of this movie--I enjoyed it but I'm not wringing my hands as I fret about the box office.

I enjoyed it.

Celtic and Irish better have liked this movie. No one can claim this movie wasn't fun.

I'll spend zero time thinking about it, but it sure was fun while I was there. :)

I downloaded an pirated copy of PACIFIC ****** today, and I'm surprised by the complete lack of fighting robots. It does get pretty messy though.

Enjoyed this film very much.... Could have been perhaps 20 min shorter and some of the characters were just a tad too over the top... But the monster action was great and most of the leads were good and given enough character to make me care. I was not sure if I could feel any suspense watching giant robots fight monsters but I did.

IMO, part of what makes a movie like this fun is over-the-top characters.

I did not mind them... I love the guy from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" the other scientist drove me a bit crazy..

I thought this film did a great job of taking it subject matter seriously but still made the film a lot of fun..

Guillermo Del Toro should direct the next Superman film :)

Does Stringer Bell make sure they understand the economic and business side of monster vs robot fights?

It WAS fun. And while I wasn't blown away and have some quibbles, I definitely like it.

I even made the best Jaegar ever:

I'm leaning a bit this way too.
MOS at least had epic intro setup, much better score, flashbacks and set ups, some emotional scenes and bonding moments, and ***** to the walls daylight action, no holds barred. And no dumb comic relief.

I thought the intro to PR was far more epic and cool then MOS.. It flowed better and set a tone for what we were in store for..

No flashbacks in MOS compared to the little Asian girls flashback (Ok "You are my son" and the "Cape" scene were pretty great)

I cared more about the relationship between the main character and his brother (for the 3 min of screen time they shared with each other) more then I did about any relationships in MOS..

The score in PR had some cool moments but nothing stuck out. MOS had a lot of drums and nothing that stuck out :)

I thought the action in PR was far cooler and more imaginative.

As far as dumb comic relief goes.... Well some of it was dumb and some was good... There was nothing that was ID4 or Transformers comic relief bad but not all the jokes were a hit..

MOS should have had some kind of humor.. Something. Something to make me see these people as characters that I can identify with.. not soulless images on the screen... I was not looking for S:TM type Humor but something... Watch the Humor in JAWS.... Perfect... Helped add to the fun of the film and made the characters more real... MOS needed some of that.

Having said all that I realize it's all opinions and there is no right or wrong. I love me some good giant monster movies and this one hit the spot... Not perfect but fun and entertaining.

I mentioned that in my review as well.

It hurt my wife and mine, especially the Tokyo scene (loved how haunting that was though with the air raid sirens).

The rumble of the bass was good but the highs were too loud with the monster screeches and buildings breaking.

MOS zero ear pain during the destruction of Metropolis.

So yeah, that bugged me with this movie, it would be tough for kids ears.

It wasn't all the time mind you, but that Tokyo scene, ouch.

Yeah, it was jarring at first, something about the mix, ooof. Turn it dooown ya whipper snappers!
