Well there will always be stragglers I guess. But for the most part, everyone was out of there. Out of the buildings, or at least far away from the Kaiju and Jagars.

But they at least took the time to show it. Which was important.

Just got back from seeing this. It was awesome.

What summer fun. No need to look into this or that. It is what it is. No need to interpret a deeper meaning, IMO. Visuals were beautiful and the acting was surprisingly good. I felt connected in some way to all of the characters. Everyone had a unique story that was well put together. Not too much. Not too little.

This had plenty of action, and honestly, I can't really say there was a dull moment because when there wasn't any 'action,' the character development help its own.

My favorite scene was the first time....
two kaijus showed up and Gipsy Danger made its triumphant return

My biggest gripes were similar to what everyone else had said. There were some many fight scenes taking place in the darkness (practically all) that I couldn't really appreciate kaiju designs as much as I wanted to (or should have.) I know they looked awesome, but I felt something was lost there.

Excellent film. There was nothing necessarily ground-breaking, but I felt they did a lot of things right.

Best movie of the summer for me. After the debacle of ST and IM3 and the dissapointment of MoS, this movie delivered on all fronts for me. Such a fun experience!

I highly recommend watching it in IMAX 3D. What amazing visuals! You could truly feel the size of the Jägers and Kaijus. GDT is my hero for bringing one of my favorite Japanese genre to the big screen. I'm still giddy like a little school boy. This was everything I had hoped for. So watching it again tomorrow. :rock

Nah millions dead outside.
Empty buildings means nothing.
horrible horrible movie!
Iresponsible!
I'm shocked!

Another major problem with the under the ocean setting that is not related to darkness.

Ocean makes anything look small.

Also, GDT didn't want 3D because he feared it would make the Jaegers and Monster lose their scale.

The film was shot using Red Epic cameras. At first Guillermo del Toro decided not to shoot or convert the film to 3D, as the effect would not work due to the sheer size of the films robots and monsters, explaining; "I didn't want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big... the thing that happens naturally, you're looking at two buildings lets say at 300 feet [away], if you move there is no parallax. They're so big that, in 3D, you barely notice anything no matter how fast you move... To force the 3D effects for robots and monsters that are supposed to be big you are making their [perspective] miniaturized, making them human scale." It was later announced that the film would be converted to 3D, with the conversion taking 40 weeks longer than most. Del Toro said: "What can I tell you? I changed my mind. I'm not running for office. I can do a Romney."

Does anyone think the 3D ruined their scale?

Same

first movie this summer that I'm excited for the bluray.

I don't know. The 3D was fine. I wouldn't see it in 3D again. But it was better then most conversions. I didn't notice the lack of scale either.

I didn't mind at all not seeing every detail of the Kaiju. Sometimes it's better that way.

Saw the movie. Was pretty solid movie . I see why people didn't like the characters. A bit to cliche but anyway the battles were awesome and I had fun.

Yea. What's that song that played after the ending scene. It's not on the soundtrack .

GDT on destruction and death:

Shock: Well, that's a big thing this summer. Mass destruction in films like Man of Steel and Star Trek into Darkness...

Del Toro: Which demolishes San Francisco. What I think is you could do nothing but echo the moment you're in. There is a global anxiety about how fragile the status quo is and the safety of citizens, but in my mind - honestly - this film is in another realm. There is no correlation to the real world. There is no fear of a copycat kaiju attack because a kaiju saw it on the news and said, I'm going to destroy Seattle. In my case, I'm picking up a tradition. One that started right after World War II and was a coping mechanism, in a way, for Japan to heal the wounds of that war. And it's integral for a kaiju to rampage in the city.

Where dafuq is Biojex's review. :tap

:lol I just got back. I ****ing hated it.

No I loved it. Like a lot. More than a lot. I wanna have a kaiju baby with dis movie...the cheese, the music, the characters, the action. I'm going again tomorrow.

One thing about my showing, they had the sound system really loud. Louder than usual I felt. So eveytime a Kaiju roared, it actually hurt my ears. But it didn't bother me, because it actually furthered my immersion. I'm deaf now, but that's okay. The movie was ****ing awesome :lol

God bless Ron Perlman.

I mentioned that in my review as well.

It hurt my wife and mine, especially the Tokyo scene (loved how haunting that was though with the air raid sirens).

The rumble of the bass was good but the highs were too loud with the monster screeches and buildings breaking.

MOS zero ear pain during the destruction of Metropolis.

So yeah, that bugged me with this movie, it would be tough for kids ears.

It wasn't all the time mind you, but that Tokyo scene, ouch.
