Way before Power Rangers and Transformers was Johnny Sokko and his flying robot which was a great series over 42 years ago. It was made into(at least for me back then) an enjoyable film also called Voyage into Space. This film reminded me so much of it and the good ole days of giant monsters

Wasn't Spectreman the first?

Hmm good question, but for me Johnny Sokko and Gigantor were the robot kings, Gigantor was first but it was a toon. Man if I remember it was about the same time. I know both series were really early 70's I think

The sad thing is that if this movie had been called Transformers 4:Optimus Prime vs Kaiju, a film by Michael Bay, it would have done a lot better at the box office.

Pacific Rim > any Transformers film

Guillermo del Toro > Michael Bay

I am sure when all is said and done, this will do alright at the box office.

I just talked to my cousin and he swares We saw johnny Sokko first. I'm pretty sure it was. I know the film came out in the very early 70s after the series ended in the late sixties

You're right, looks like Johnny Sokko was a couple of years before Spectreman... at least here in the States.

Regardless, what a great era! :hi5:

This and LR deserved better. For me both of these films were very enjoyable and nostalgic. Freakin shame. I will own both on bluray

Pacific Rim >>>> ANYTHING TRANSFORMERS.

Anyway, I think Evilface is right. I can see the fatigue of massive destruction porn bothering people. I was sick of it during Man of Steel.

But this movie won me over. It should've been released earlier in the summer, not this late. But oh well. I hope it finds it's audience.

At least it isn't another Dredd.

There have been many movies that have caught fire later on in the video market and went on to have sequels, Austin Powers anyone?

I know quite a few people who just wait for the DVD or Blu-ray release because they no longer enjoy the theater experience.

So I'm sure video rentals and sales will be good.

It's too bad studios don't pay as much attention.

Some do, but most of them are stuck with the mentality that if it only does well in theaters, it's a hit. A movie can find it's audience later on. Look at Blade Runner.

When he sacrificed himself I was sad as a kid. :lol

Absolutely :lecture

Never understood the argument of box office figures being the justification of a good or bad movie. Just look at Grown Ups 2 out doing Pacific Rim :dunno

Speaks volumes!

Plenty of people have s**t taste in movies!

And not that it matters anyways, Grown Ups 2 RT rating is 7%, while Pacific Rim is 72%. Despicable Me 2 being a animated film was bound to make good money at the box office due to its larger audience of both kids and adults. The box office numbers of Grown Ups 2 is inexcusable.
