Did you go alone, or with the wife? :D

Just me...my wife is on a business trip... :monkey2

Ok guys... a few more thoughts...

Let's get this out of the way... the 3D even though is post-converted, is one of THE BEST I've seen since Avatar, and I am not kidding! GDT personally supervised it, and you can tell that even though he was not happy about doing it, he did an extraordinary job directing the conversion.

Soundtrack if you've heard is absolutely fantastic, goes really well with the movie and action! Has some very epic moments and a variety of moods that helps support the movie.

Acting, Idris Elba IMO steals the show... he commands, motivates and really is a badass! The other actors do a great job, but nothing to write home about.
The humor is typical Del Toro humor, a little Jurassic-Park-esque actually, which isn't bad at all.

SFX are absolutely mind-blowing, from the production design, to the sets, and obviously the Kaiju and Jaegers, simply outstanding work.

As for the story, it's pretty straight-forward, threat-battle-mission-action one... but all the details of how this world revolves, is what makes you feel part of it. Very immersive tech and story.

Now, it's NOT a perfect movie, it has some predictable moments, and some that are cliché for the genre. Some of the acting might not be everyone's cup of tea, specially the humor. But I gotta say, it is never annoying like Bayformers or ID4 "if" you wanna compare it to that crap.

GDT really enjoyed this playground and it shows!
Now, he has like 2 sides, the deep-imagination one which is for movies like Pan's Labyrinth, Cronos or Devil's Backbone, and the fun-playground one that is Blade 2, HB1 and HB2... this one is obviously on the latter category but cranked up to 11!!
Loved it!

SO JEALOUS! good to hear the movie was great. If you haven't watched Luther the TV series Elba is the star of on BBC, watch it (it's on netflix), it's crazy how awesome of an actor he is and it does not surprise me he steals the show, they guy is THE best mans actor working, he needs to get more movie rolls.

I'm so excited for this, I've been watching some Japanese monster movies lately preparing for this. Watched war of the gargantues on netflix and watched Gamera guardian of the universe last night. So pumped for this film. can't wait till next week.

If this is anything like Johnny Socko and his flying robot, Gigantor, or any of the old Godzilla or giant monster destroying Tokyo flicks I will enjoy it IMHO

Thanks for the review, I am so jealous right now. That last trailer was amazing. I cannot wait aweek to see this. If you like Idris Elba, someone already mentioned Luthor, but he is also on the greatest TV show of all time: The Wire. he plays Stringer Bell, and man does he own that role.

Can't wait to see this.

Do you really want me to spoil it for you?... :lol

OK, just a little tidbit

The final battle involves 3 Kaiju and 2 Jaegers... and I don't think we've seen anything in the trailers that show this battle...

And yes... it's badass

Do we find out anything about where the Kaiju come from, or who sent them?

Is there an after-credits scene with Nick Fury?

Yep... and we actually see a bit of it...
If you have the art book, they pretty much spill the beans there...
Did it seem like they set the film up for a sequel?

BTW, just picked up Crimson Typhoon from TRU. They only had him and a Gipsy Danger, but the Gipsy Danger's head looked a bit dented and the yellow paint was iffy.

Haven't opened him yet but he looks awesome. Surprised he was two dollars less than the Dutch figures, at $15.
