I'd say more like 3/4 of the fun. It's all about the anticipation. Once we actually get whatever it is, you pull out of the box, mess with it for a few minutes, maybe take some pics and then stick it on a shelf to collect dust. Hundreds of dollars gone for the brief euphoria of finding that brown shipping box on your doorstep.

You win the most quoted in a thread prize:fest but you are right though, It starts with the search on the intro webs, then you see the next must have thing, talk about how your gunna pre-order,then you pre-order and come to the forum and talk more about it, then you wait......... talk some more than wait...... gets released in china and you get in hand picks...... then you wait....... then you get a shipping notice and are charged......you tell everyone you got your notice...... you check your shipping status and watch some youtube reviews on said product and wait.......then it arrives:yess: you mess with it, take pics, put on shelf and start process over again:lol

I am not enjoying the half a year wait for my Batman PF. Not one little bit.

Actually, as I am just getting into the hobby my main enjoyment comes from actually looking at my first PF, the Captain America TFA PF, whenever I pass by it. It is an amazing piece of art. Now I know that will pass a bit, but I still think I will always enjoy admiring the craftsmanship that went into it.

Oh and I do enjoy the "hunt" for good deals...lol

Its not the wait that's fun. It's the getting. From there, sadly I agree that ownership can be anticlimactic, but not always.

I'll admit that a lot of the enjoyment stems from anticipation, but I also enjoy my figures on a daily basis, visually. They're in my living room, so ill come home, flip on the lights, plop down on the couch and unwind as I pour over my collection, taking in the details and admiring the work that went into each piece.

its no different from pieces of art, the difference is i can change the way it looks when i get bored of it.

Agreed exactly what I like to do too.

:lecture :exactly: If I didn't get a kick out of checking out my collection every time I go into the office (where most of it is) I wouldn't bother buying the stuff. I have them in a display that (I believe) does justice to each figure on its own as well as the collection as a whole. Display counts for a lot when it comes to enjoying these things on a daily basis. I can't get over how some folks can spend hundreds of dollars on a figure but shirk on the cost of its presentation. In those cases its no wonder that the anticipation is the high point of the collecting process.

*winces* and this is why I don't have a Show Your Shelves thread. I am utterly guilty of what you've described.

Yeah, it's part of the fun for sure. However, I think if its a subject you love having that item keeps that feeling when you look at.

If you enjoy your figures as they are, I really wouldn't bother :) But if you look at your figures, displayed all higgledy-piggledy, and wistfully lament their willy-nilly arrangement, I can only recommend you bear the financial pain of getting yourself a good display set-up. Mine isn't all that flash, but it is a display that allows me to appreciate each figure as part of a larger collection. What I've got going on is a floating shelf + acrylic box; an Ikea Expedit system + acrylic front; and a few figures just posed in the open on my desk. I'll post some pics next time I'm at work.

No I hate the way my collection looks. All over the place, overcrowded, unable to arrange stuff the way I'd like because it can only go where it physically fits etc. I'm using 2 book shelves that only have 2 shelves each that can fit 1:6 figures at full height. On all the other shelves I have to compromise with arrangements and poses I don't want. I've given the top of the bookcases makeshift extensions that look hidious just to fit more stuff on top, otherwise it'd be on the ground.

I just kept prioritising more figures rather than investing in the proper display of the ones I had. Now I'm saving for my wedding so it remains on the backburner.

I like the sound of what you've got.

:lecture Fix this we must. You deserve to feel unconsolidated joy and eruptive pleasure when appreciating your dollies. Possession should provide at least as much satisfaction for collecting as anticipation imo.

Get married. Then we work on what's only slightly less important in a man's life.

(Congrats by the way :hi5:)

Thank you sir :1-1:

Needless to say I'm not buying many toys now (really shouldn't be buying any) and I've been selling a lot. I'm planning to make most of my cutbacks permanent so hopefully in '14 I'll have the funds for proper displays.

I second this. I plopped down a bunch of money for a great display cabinet right after I got my first piece. I can't stand to have all these beautiful sculpts cluttered around the place. If you have so much stuff that you can't see some of it, you have too much stuff and it might be time to consider cleaning things up. Plus, I'm sure the future missus won't be too pleased to have everything all over the place. If you can display everything nicely in a way that doesn't detract from them, she may not understand why you have all this crap, but at least she'll be able to appreciate that it's not a mess.

Well thankfully I don't have this problem. Or at least if she did complain I'd have a pretty good comeback considering the state she keeps the bedroom.
With my stuff its me, I'm the one sick of looking at the cluttered, disorganised mess.

Display cases are fairly important to me, I have one large display case and one regular glass ikea one. I find that having them organizes and protects the pieces aswell as makes them look more impressive. The displays are themed by shelf and outside of those I have a small section in my bedroom inwhich I have individual cases per figure for those figures that don't fit in a themed shelf.

To each there own but collecting highend figures and leaving them open to dust and damage does not make sence, cause if you can afford to spend 200 or so on a figure you can afford a 60 dollar display case, however some my not have the space.

Its also part of the fun when I have a day or two off once in a while I will clean and reorganize the display every month or so.
