I'm all for keeping stuff out of direct sunlight, extremes of temperature and cigarette smoke. However, dust, its a nuisance but really what damage can it do?

Probably not much, maybe rubber figures overtime may get affected but dust is really just what you stated more of a nuisance than anything else. Most figures now a days are more fragile but even dust would'nt really harm them. I just prefer to avoid it and one other thing thats kinda cool about display cases is they tend to keep that new toy smell so everytime I open it up its nice to be welcomed by that wonderful scent:)
