I dunno. The show is great, but between them pulling episodes and local stations dumping the series to a sister network, I don't know if they'll be able to keep it, even if they want it. They pushed the envelope too far for the weak hearted basic TV viewers I guess. :slap

If it goes off network (for those very reasons) I could see STARZ or some other opportunity picking it up.

I'm sure it's probably just the Canadians watching this show, but every time Scott Thompson appears I keep waiting to see Dave Foley walk out dressed in drag...

Loving the show.
I'm a huge Kids in the Hall fan, so I do love seeing Thompson there, and think about that show whenever he appears. Specifically the Running, uh, guy he played :lol

Any word from NBC yet on renewal?

No, because it's bombing in the ratings. Started off low (debut only had 4.3 million) and every episode since they've lost viewers (last episode only had 2.61 million). A second season on NBC isn't looking good at this point.

TNT. They picked up Southland and have been happy with the results ever since. That was another show that got similar numbers on NBC and was canceled after the first season. What Southland was pulling/Hannibal is pulling sucks for a network station but it's considered "great" for extended cable (like TNT, AMC, THC, etc.)

AMC would be an amazing fit for Hannibal. I think this show has serious legs. I can see a scenario where they "resell" the events of red dragon and sotl in this "new" reality

You mean "retool" because MGM owns the rights to all the characters that originate in that book/movie. So Clarice, Jame Gumb aka Buffalo Bill, etc. will never appear on "Hannibal". According to whoever runs "Hannibal" they asked to use those characters already and MGM flat out said "NO!". :lol

Yeah I read that, immediately faceplamed because it puts the writers of this show in a tough position. Do they just completely skip the already established timeline, or do they just reboot/rewrite it to fit in their own timelines?

One of the issues with the series might be that folks know how it is going to end. I guess that was the same situation with Spartacus, but people do love historical drama with hyper sex and violence. With this one, although it's okay, I personally don't feel like I've been intrigued enough by novel subplots that divert attention away from what I already know. I do hope the show survives. It should take a page from The Bates Motel. Now that's a show that's got some serious legs!!!

I like Bates Motel, altho I find slightly predictable.
"Hannibal" of course everyone knows the story but that shouldn't alienate fans regarding potential predictability. Look at Game of Thrones, alot of the GoT fans have read the books but the tv show has a huge fan base.
I think the average naive "Joe Schmoe" might be shocked by the gore, and if anything IMO that's what will kill the show, not the overall storyline.

For some reason Adult dramas haven't faired well on NBC recently. Southland, Awake and now Hannibal all tanked/are tanking and it sucks because all three were/are good. I still watch Southland on TNT and I've liked every episode of Hannibal minus the missing episode I recently watched. That thing was so butchered and edited it doesn't even make sense. :lol

:goodpost: I think what's killing this show is NBC. It has a horrible timeslot. They don't block their shows well. There's almost no rhyme or reason to it. Plus this should be treated as the mature drama it is. It's no wonder the network is floundering like it is.

I was fairly luke warm about the series when I watched the first episode. But I gotta say it's really grown on me! It has a real David Fincher feel, which I think is quite appropriate.

I also enjoyed the last couple of episodes more which moved away from Abigail Hobbs's storyline.

:exactly: I'm enjoying it very much so far!

I'm liking this show a lot too. Loved Hannibal's comment about having an old friend for dinner in the last episode. Can't wait to see everyone's reactions when they realize what exactly they have been eating when they dine with Hannibal.

The super neurotic portrayal of Graham really annoyed me at first, but I don't know if he pulled back or if it just doesn't annoy me as much anymore. The magical "get into the mind of the killer" scene really bugs me though. In the Norton version of Red Dragon, it was stressed that his gift was that he could get into the head of the killer based on evidence. In this show, it seems to be magic.

Other than that, the show has really grown on me. I'd hate to see it go.
