Okay okay, Let's say you're absolutely Correct. The Price of Sideshow PF's is rising out of control. You guys are forgetting that they have always been the expensive statues. ALWAYS. Back when PF's first came out they were $200-$250 in 2004/2005? What was a Bowen Statue back then? $150 to $160 maybe at most $175. Go Ahead, check it. What's a Bowen Going for Now? $230?

Granted it's not the steep incline that is Sideshow's price model, but Bowen Statues aren't 1/4 scale, and don't have Cloth/Multiple Head&Hand Sculpts. As a matter of fact Most Comiquettes are Cheaper than PF's for that reason.

What about DC Direct, 7" Black and White Batman Statues. Originally $49.99, I know, I bought the first set. They are now just under $100...for 7" Statue.

I know it's great to get online and complain about what you think is wrong but, if you didn't see the price increases coming for these pieces that only a few real companies offer in the same quality and size then...I don't know where you guys have been.

The statue market, hell the collectible market including Comics, Cards and Art have all gone up in price at the retail level. If you don't like these enough to pay what the asking price is then I gotta say, what are you doing? Because as time has shown, it's not going to get any better.

I agree with you Josh, which is why I'm getting out of collecting or will buy from smaller companies until they explode/implode lol. I wouldn't mind slight increases on what I buy, but when they're making this many pieces it just isn't worth it to me anymore. I like my Uni Monster PFs so much because hardly anyone has them. They're rare. They didn't make that many. Same with earlier Marvel stuff. Anyway, to each their own like I said. :) I will buy WW probably and the new Cobra Commader 1/6 along with Baroness and Destro 1/6 (if they ever happen) and a Myers PF if that ever sees the light of day lol, but then nothing else out there would excite me to continue spending this kind of money on statues/toys. Maybe if I lived in The States I wouldn't mind, but import fees are crazy and I'm getting burned out. Just my two cents of course.

Yeah, people on here can cry "inflation" all they want but the rate of inflation is nowhere near what SS is doing with their increases. I believe they're killing themselves with higher ES and price points. Sure, I might swallow spending $400 for Supes Ex, but I sure as heck am not willing to spend that much for lesser "B" or "C" level characters. Not going to happen. Ever. These PFs are too fragile. They make too many of an ES now. They're just not as special anymore to someone who wants to collect "special" things. Also, I've seen too many Joker PFs on ebay sell for UNDER $300 already so I learned a lesson. Be patient. Wait it out. Don't buy direct because there's no urgency to anymore, and prices will drop at this high an ES. I will buy WW's PF only if she looks stunning, if not, no biggie. Pass just like I did on Harley. Harley was REALLY underwhelming to me, and the price is laughable for what you get IMHO. Barbie is made of fabric too, and made in China, there is no reason to pay this much for Harley. To each their own if you love this PF of course, but I really thought the DC Direct piece was better detailed and had more to offer.

Good points...and even though I guess polystone is of a higher "grade" than Barbie plastic (although I'm not sure it's higher moreso than just different), polystone is still, no matter which way you cut it, plastic.

Wow... We get it.... The prices are going up... That's bad... Are you guys really going to go on and on for ANOTHER 50 pages. I am all for discussions... God knows I like to have them... But isn't this the HARLEY PF THREAD... NOT the RISING PRICES THREAD????

Well if that's what people want to discuss...:dunno

But it's being discussed here because the discussion applies to this PF. Harley is the 1st female PF of this size and detail offering at this price point. People want to not only have a statue that's visually appealing to them, but they also want to feel like the price they're paying matches the value they're receiving.

And where in the heck are you seeing a "MANY" Joker Pf's selling for Under $300. Dude, I honestly think you like to exaggerate to try and prove your point. I just checked Sold listings on ebay and 2...that's right TWO, Regular Jokers went for Under $300.

You are 100% right about SS being the $$$ brand. I have no issue in paying a little more. SS is doing what they should and calibrating the price with the market demand. I will pay these new prices and still get as much enjoyment out of it.

Only issue is, cost is going up, ES is going up, QC is declining, production time is getting longer. Nt many markets will deal with that. I will for some time but with this business model I reckon it will be difficult for SS to find collectors down the line to replace us. I may of course be completely wrong.

What I do is Not Buy.

Its silly to say that prices can go up infinitely on an elastic good and the vendor will never feel the pain. I think they're feeling it now, since many collectors - both here and on StatueForums, not to mention elsewhere - are declining to PO this figure.

Not to mention, it is MUCH EASIER to take a chance on a $100 figure than it is on a $400 figure - because after you pay shipping on a PF, its going to be within shouting distance of $400.

If you have unlimited cash, cool beans. These issues will mean little to you. To those of us who dont, and are involved in several hobbies... well....

For real, in the last two months I've seen a lot. No, I don't have the exact number but it made me feel like if I wait it out the same will happen with other PFs with that large an ES. I didn't buy Bats yet for that reason, but I did order Supes. It won't matter though because like I said, not a lot will excite me anymore to get me to buy. There are a ton of Jokers on ebay LISTED for crazy prices, but no one is biting unless it's around or under retail on a Reg from what I've seen. And there are far too many listed. Anyway, :peace just my opinion. Not telling you guys what to do.

I'm pretty sure you know this but just in case and you're curious. Polystone is actually plastic resin mixed with stone powder. It gives it a more stone/porcelain feel and allows for better paint and texture than regular porcelain(because it has to be oven fired and polystone is coldcast) and most plastics.

So you're buying stone and plastic...though I'm pretty sure we are all more over buying the art that is carved into and out of it than anything else.

Like I said man, I just checked the sold listings. It gives you all the prices for the statues sold in the last 90 days. I'm just saying to check your facts before you post stuff like that.:)

Well said. In cases like this, companies like SS can do 2 things: revise their model to low acquisition cost high turn and volume OR price gouge and raise acquisition cost per unit to increase average margin. What SS is doing is neither...raising acquisition cost and ES a the same time.

I hope in the end, SS doesn't shy from doing these secondary characters as the lower take-rate will be very much attributed to the cost of acquisition and not because they aren't in demand.

And let's be honest...the price is fine as long as we're really WOWed by the piece. I don't think price was discussed all that much in the Ivy thread.

I read in another thread that you're an artist so as an artist I expect you to understand this analogy.

There's two prints. Both of the same Subject matter. Let's say Frazetta's Death Dealer IV. One is printed on stretched Canvas, 24x30, has been digitally restored to it's original color and has been framed. This print is $1500.

There's another print of the same piece, On Rolled Canvas, 11x14, Unframed, and the color is a bit off. This Print is $150.

As with anything you buy online and have shipped to you both can be damaged in transit.

If you had the money, as I'm sure anyone who looks to buy any of these statues has the money to buy the ones they want. Which do you buy?

And really, it's that simple.

Time will tell right, but they're losing me somewhat already. :wave anyways guys, I'm heading off for the night. Thanks for a good debate with some valid points thrown in on all sides. I'm sticking to my guns though on my opinion of SS these days lol. :wink1:

I do have to say, regardless of price, I believe SS builds an outstanding product. I think this piece will be an excellent addition. I am hoping that the quality of the product shines and really reflects the acquisition cost.

I put my faith in SS.

It depends on how much I like Death Dealer. If it is my favorite painting ever, I spring for the better one.

If I like Death Dealer but do not love it, I buy the cheaper one.... or maybe I want to go even cheaper than $150, so I start looking around.

This very much ties into the discussion, because for many Harley is a second-string character - not for me, but many view her like that - and hence the "ZOMG, $350+ FOR THIS!??" that we are seeing here and there about the Internet. This isn't Bats or Supes, where fans will pay anything no questions asked, just about. This is a supporting-cast character but we are being asked to pay starring-role price.

I know for sure that I do not want the EX on this, but I love Harl so much that I am honestly torn. We may not ever get another statue of this size, of this character again. I am not acting rashly, but sitting on my hands and thinking things over very carefully.

I think you know exactly what you're going to do though. As you said, you don't want the EX but love Harley. So like anyone with a decision like this. You'll get the Regular, perhaps a bit cheaper from another retailer offering a discount so you're not paying the full price and you'll have your Harley and cake too.

Yes I agree with this :goodpost: shes really small like scarlet witch but she's now close to 400.00. Even at 350.00 that was pushing it. She looks pretty simple like and should be like 300.00 to 325.00 max. The prices are getting out of hand. I can understand the big ones like supes and batman. The huge cape etc. But Harley which is small and simple. Why?? I mean spider woman was 325.00 along with storm. They both had change of heads and other accessories too. Plus ES was 350 to 500 pieces. Unlike Harley in the thousands most likely. :monkey1

I truly think that these high prices are going to end up hurting the vendor. I am a huuuuuge Harley fan, and even I am not ordering this. If it were cheap enough, I would order the reg to get her in-hand and check her out in person; a lot of times things look different in-hand.

But she's so expensive, I dont dare take the chance that I might not like her.

I dont own any PFs yet, and I may never own one just because of this issue. For me to spend $350-400, all of the stars are going to have to be aligned, everything is going to have to be exactly perfect. What are the chances of that happening? Prob'ly nil.

I'm a little unhappy about not liking this figure. I WANTED so much to like it. I did not order the Ivy PF because I was waiting for this one..... Oh well.... back to waiting for the Marvel Loki PF. Maybe that will be better.

Wow never thought about this. Your right these price increase will hurt the dealers too. I can see people at shops saying prices are high now since even before the hikes it was already high. Oh well if shops don't sell them SS loses out because they will order less. I mean can you all imagine being a new customer walking into a shop and seeing superman or batman PF for 400.00 plus? It would be enough to keep many newbies and even myself away who is new to the hobby. :rotfl

Good points...and even though I guess polystone is of a higher "grade" than Barbie plastic (although I'm not sure it's higher moreso than just different), polystone is still, no matter which way you cut it, plastic.

Now it's eggshell for even higher price hikes. :/ I really don't mind eggshell but I do mind SS not handing the saving to us instead of charging even more.
