Never cried at a film, but the bit in Highlander where he's with Heather as she dies set to Queens "Who wants to live forever" always gets to me

I'm not sure what was wrong with me, but I watched the original V miniseries Thursday night, and it wrecked me. It had an emotional impact like nothing else has. I kept thinking that it would subside, but straight through to the end, there was always a new scene to nail me.

Could have been the writing (which was spectacular), or the acting (also damned impressive---Faye Grant and Michael Wright especially), or the green bud (well...). I don't know. I haven't watched it since 1983, but I now have a pretty clear idea of why it was the television event of my childhood.

Lion King springs to mind, when Simba comes across Mufasa's lifeless body. Gets to me so badly I have real difficulty watching it. Its not so much films, but rather scenes with child and loss of father figure or something.

Is it because he's a damn good actor?

More movies than I will even remember to type here have made me cry. But to name a bunch:

The Green Mile
All Dogs Go To Heaven
Titanic
The Notebook
Bridge to Terabithia
A Time To Kill
Castaway
Deep Impact

I'm not much of a crier. I can't remember the last time I cried at anything (I slammed my thumb in a sliding door when I was about 9 ... I cried then, 'cause it hurt like hell ... is that gonna be close enough?) ... much less at a movie.

But, I have a wife that cries at reality shows, commercials and Lifetime movies -- and two kids (under 5) that cry at bloody everything (I spend half-my-life trying to figure out what everybody's cryin' about!) ...

... so there's enough melodrama around the house without me getting all gooey over a movie.

I must destroy LOTR fans for crying at that part! What a lame part of a very grueling long film. I had so many sniffers around me during my viewing. Oi, I did not like that movie one bit.

'It's a Wonderful Life' always gets me. I found that out when I watched it twice on TV over this past holiday season. Not because it's sad, but because of the sincere support that everyone offers to George Bailey at the end of the movie. It makes my eyes well up that all of these people who he has impacted without even realizing it over the course of his life are there for him when he needs it.

The other one that got me when I saw it was 'About Schmidt'. The end of the movie,
when he receives the letter and drawing from Ndugu - the little boy in Africa
- It's a pretty moving moment and it really blindsided me. It kind of parallels 'It's a Wonderful Life' but in an opposite way.
