My fiance knows all about my toys, comics and movies obsession so I have no reason to lie. We live together and share expensives so it would be next to impossoble. She just sorta rolls her eyes and says something like " I love you... even if you are a nerd"

My wife understands my passion, and that's all I need.

But honeslty, I don't think its a passion/hobby anymore. More of an obsession. Makes me spend more time on the web than what I was doing (is needed, in fact) earlier. About the dough, yes I lie, sometimes. We're doing well as a family, she has her money to spend, have no kids right now; but I question myself sometimes where to draw the line? Am I going overboard? With the constant price rise, I have being raising my "maximum I should spend on a collectible" level. Could I have put the money I spent on purchasing a statue to better use? For me this is The Best use of my parked funds. Am I being too selfish. God! I can go on and on...

Guess we all lie, some more some less. Thanks Lejuan for starting this thread. I am sure it will give a bit of catharsis to many like me :wink1:

never lied... people just know better than to ask how much it all costs :)
if they would ask, I don't mind telling the truth... it's our money, we work hard for it, so we get to decide how to spend it as well :)

I inflate the cost of everything so people think I am rich and eccentric. You should see the look on peoples face when you tell them you paid $800 for a 12" doll, or $2000 for a premium format.

True Story :lecture

I often lie about the number of them also...example:

Lame house guest, "Hey Chase, how much did you pay for this big devil head?"

Chase, "You mean Darkness from Legend (idiot), it was $5000. Theres only 4 in the world. Pretty cool huh."

Lame house guest, "...................."

:lecture :lecture :lecture

Good ones, King ! :rotfl

Did you have Darkness PF prototype by the time he saw your Legend shrine ? Can't help thinking of the conversation you'd have with your "lame house guest" about this one. :lol

About the lying subject, I don't have to because I'm buying responsibly.
When I was single and now that I'm in a couple with a child, I use my money in the same order :
- bills (food, house, school ...)
- savings
- fun (holidays, movies, music ...)
- THEN collectibles

My lady, family and close friends know about the prices ; they are sometimes surprised by the cost of some items but they know my collection is last in my expenses list, so no need to hide the truth.

Now, do they understand having a figure/statue/bust of a movie character/alien/monster ? That's another story :lol

Id never lie to my wife about what I spent on something, she knows my collection and what its worth. Most of my pieces have gained in value since I purchased them so she really looks at it different than me just throwing money away. Eventually I will get out of the hobby, I am certain of that...and she knows I'll be able to get money back out of it so I know she don't think its a huge deal. Not only do I work my a$% off for the money I earn at my full time place of employment but I also make money other ways ( Legally of course). I use extra money I earn to buy my stuff so technically it does not come out of my normal salary, so not much she could really say about it.

Besides, she just forked out $1000 on a new camera......so yeah. Anyway my wife loves me and supports anything I want to do. Really if it makes me happy she wants me to do it, though I think sometimes she is a tad bit annoyed sometimes about a purchase I made. Oh well, she will get over it :).

Ive never really had to explain to anyone how much I spend on figure's except my dad. He thinks its a cool hobby and don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, he has thought about purchasing some star wars related merchandise from sideshow after I introduced him to there wonderful products. I really do not think anyone else in my family would care enough about it to know about it. I am a nerd and have always been into this sort of thing......they never really understood it and don't really care if they ever do. I enjoy it and I think its fun to try and obtain figures....all that matters really.

that is so true all that you said. :yess:
