Totally bummed about Ned! He just kept taking one hit after another and it was awful to watch him admit to all of his "crimes" only to still loose his head. I hope that Jamie is not spared and that Queen Mommy lives in a dark depression for the rest of her days.

I also felt that they sped up the Dany storyline a ton this episode. Everything was happening so fast. I like her character and I will also be bummed if her husband dies from his wound. I would like to see him die in a sweet battle and have someone else cut off his hair before he dies.

As for the battle scenes being cut out, I didn't mind it. I understand that they would be incredibly expensive. I thought they handled it just fine. In HBO's ROME I thought it was cheesy when they just did the blurry fast motion battle scenes. This was better.

Ned's death was just as shocking when I read the book for the first time as it was for all of you watching the show, but I got over it and kept reading and I'm sure as hell glad I did. In fact, I'd say it was worse for book readers because we knew the character to a greater degree than on the show, having access to his inner thoughts and more of his backstory. I love the fact that the author flipped the fantasy convention of "good triumphs over evil" on its head. Did it piss me off at first? Sure. But I'd rather be challenged by the books I read and the shows I watch than to tread the cliched, comfortable path all the time.

Honestly, I think HBO Ned is one of the show's least interesting characters. I wonder how much of the love is due to the fact that he's played by Sean Bean? As a character, HBO Ned is pretty much one-note, so strict and rigid in his beliefs and attitude that he gets himself killed. Tyrion is far more interesting and shouldn't be lumped in with the "evil Lannisters". Hell, I've had more fun watching Arya than any scene with Ned. What is it about Ned that makes him the deciding factor on whether or not to continue watching?

I guess if viewers are looking for instant gratification in this show, then you'll be disappointed. This is a 7 book series, which each book as long as the entirety of Lord of the Rings. This is a long journey and it gets a hell of a lot better, so don't give up yet. The scope of the narrative is going to broaden immensely and there will be much more to focus on than the lack of revenge in King's Landing. You'll forget all about Sean Bean once the story really blows up.

Because Ned is a good guy with morals. The Character really came off well and extremely likeable, what show are you watching?

Does anyone else think it may be appropriate to have a separate thread for the books? It must be hard for the people that have read them to not drop hints and stuff. :rotfl That way we can discuss spoiler free TV stuff that has already happened. Just a thought.

I haven't read the books and I thought it has been obvious since the first episode that Jon Snow is going to be the central character. :dunno

But I agree. Separate threads for show on movies might be a good idea. :lecture

You're going to like this series then.

Thats a good thing because I have a feeling after next week he'll be the only character I give a crap about. I just don't think they've done enough with the others to make me like them much. Now, there are some I don't care for that they've done a good job with.

WTF?

Sean Bean stabbed in London bar fight

(CBS) Sean Bean has played characters who are no strangers to battle, but the actor reportedly got into a brawl of his own on Sunday night.

According to the Daily Mail, the "Lord of the Rings"/"Game of Thrones" actor was stabbed in the arm during the incident, which took place at a London bar.

Witnesses told the paper that Bean, 52, and model April Summers were smoking outside the bar when a passerby made lewd comments about her, and Bean chased him down the street. The man returned to the bar later that evening, spotted Bean outside again and attacked him.

The actor was reportedly punched in the face and stabbed in the arm with broken glass.

Despite the injuries, Bean chose not to go to the hospital. Instead, he accepted a first aid kit from the bar staff and then ordered another drink.

"Sean is a regular here and we've never had any problems before. He was with a very attractive woman and an incident occurred outside the bar," one staff member told the paper. "He came in with a cut on his arm and a bruise on his eyebrow. We saw to his injuries with the first aid kit. He seemed OK and wanted to have another drink."

Bean plays Lord Ned "Eddard" Stalk on HBO's "Game of Thrones," and also played Boromir in the "Lord of the Rings" films.

That doesn't mean that the other characters won't be developed in the future, giving you other characters to like.

Ned needed to be the central character early so we could see how his ways impact his children. He's an honorable man in a time and place were there is no honor... It will be interesting to see how House Stark comports themselves from here on.... Jamie Lannister on a stick perhaps?

Just because I said he was the least interesting character doesn't mean I don't like Ned. I enjoyed Sean Bean's performance and was thrilled when he was cast as Ned. I just don't see him as the crux of the series and I find the other stories of more interest. I tend to gravitate more towards characters colored in shades of grey than the "good guys with morals." I guess that's why I love shows like Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy.

As a Bean fan, I can see why it would suck to lose such a great actor in a good role. I was just trying to offset some of the "Without Ned this show is dead to me!" sentiment that's been cropping up, and explain that for me he was not the most important reason to watch.

I think I might stop reading this thread. Even with spoilers I'm afraid of reading something I don't want to know about yet.

I don't blame you... I was on board with this show from day one but I still stayed away from this thread, mainly due to the fact that I watch the show Monday or Tuesday and not Sunday. Still, I don't like the fact that I open myself up to spoilers. :(

This is true. Thats why I will go into season two open minded and why I'm thinking about reading the first two books before season 2 starts. Though, I admit this show is on a short leash.

Thought this as well. Snow and Daddy Lannister are my faves on the show now that Ned is beside himself.

Like a bauce.

Same here... I hate spoilers and even when most are good about using tags on or two always slip through.

But suffice to say I love the series, but am bummed last week is the season finale.

Thing is they were designing this to be the same good beats evil. I don't mind them doing things a bit differently but like I said when you make the show appear going in one direction then do something else was shocking. If I had read the books I wouldn't have been but I hadn't so I was.

I also just don't think they've made the rest of the characters interesting enough yet to really make care yet. This season felt like they bult of Ned so much and having him die in season 1 was shocking.

Yes, book/series 1 is mainly about Ned, but the other books are not. The story is more about his children.

Also, with the amount of characters in the story, can you realy expect ALL of them to be properly fleshed out so quickly? Characters get removed to make way for more information about other characters ;)
And the whole thing about being shocked that the story is set up for going one way but turns another.... that's called a twist. That's kind of the point. If people want to watch predictable rubbish where they know what's going to happen that's fine, but it has to be refreshing and healthy that there are some stories, like life, that don't go according to plan.

And yes, in terms of books, we have 4 out of 7. We're only about half way through.

And some characters don't stay dead ;)
