I bumped into this and hadn't seen it before. The Mountain IRL with his girlfriend.

Terrible ep this week

CLEGANEBOWL postponed indefinitely

Turns out, Arya is just dumb.

Saving grace was Bronn, that guy needs his own show.

I enjoyed this episode personally. Though the Faceless Man subplot seems pretty pointless right now. I hope it will pay off later somehow, and wasn't just a situation where they changed their minds about some direction, and then did an about face with it.

The castle siege was fairly anticlimactic, but seemed sensible. I'm curious what will happen with the Tully soldiers. Doesn't seem like they're going to have the time or ability to join Jon now.

If I cared anything about the Dany storyline, I'm sure I would be excited about what happened there. The Hound joining the Brotherhood makes some sense, as it combines his newfound sense of right and wrong with his recognition of the importance of fighting and killing in this world. Poor *******s he massacred at the beginning didn't seem to deserve it!

I am disappointed at the current state of the trial by combat, but who knows where it goes from here?

The part with the assassin chasing Arya was pretty funny though. Reminded me of the T-1000 chasing John Connor.

High point of the episode: Seeing Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr again, and clarifying that those were rogue members of the brotherhood that killed the "commune" people.

Low point: Blackfish's offscreen death. A badass like him should have been given a fighting scene, and at the end while dying, he should have said "Today was a good day..." (+1 for those who get the movie reference).

For some reason this show tends to shy away from on screen violence. Don't get me wrong, there have been plenty of stabbings and beheading and head popping's on the show. But tonight's FrankenMountain head rip Mortal Kombat fatality would have been shown in its full bloody glory on Walking Dead 99% of the time. GoT would rather show gratuitous ****s than have an on screen death. I too am suspicious of off camera deaths. The Hound turned out to be alive 2 seasons later, why not Stanis or the Blackfish? So whenever they don't show an important character (ie they've been given a name) get killed on screen, its always curious. Was it for budgetary reasons? Artistic reasons? Episode length reasons? Or sneaky storytelling reasons? I mean, if he's going to be dead, show us a death scene or his corpse at least and be done with it. At least we got Nobody Girl's face on a wall tonight.

I liked that episode but it took Arya the best part of two seaons to remember she was Arya Stark and should return to Winterfell?!... Will the show be so kind to have all the Stark children reuinte one day?

And remember The Hound prefers chicken. :lecture :D

i thought it was a good episode. i wanted to see the dragons burn the ships but that might happen in the next one. the clegane brothers had some gruesome scenes. he pulled that dudes head off like a pringle can lid lol

Hm, these past two episodes just didn't work for me. The Arya storyline made no sense. Why have her at the episode 6 in the dark all ready for the Waif with Needle, then in episode 7 strolling down the street without a care in the world. Then she gets stabbed multiple time in the gut and then proceed like nothing happened? As if it was just a minor scratch. Arya would have been toast .What was the point of going to Lady Crane? Why not just go straight from Arya getting out of the water( after the multiple stabbing) to the chase scene in last nights episode? Bad writing. There has been some strange writing decisions this year, btw. There is a lot I've enjoyed thus far this season and lot that just hasn't worked. The decisions and motivations of a lot of characters either don't make sense or aren't fleshed out...

Coincidence that they are beyond where Martin is in the books, and we are getting more WTF-type writing? Like I said before though, maybe this will all pay off somehow (maybe she will team up with the Faceless Ones at some later point? Or maybe there will be another situation where she has to defeat others without her sight?). But at the moment, the Arya subplot in particular is head scratching.

Blackfish may not be dead, though the way he left Brienne had an air of finality. I don't think he's a Chuck Norris type who could overwhelm a bunch of soldiers on his own. And he had a chance to escape, but chose death instead. BUT, he may have appealed to the soldiers who didn't really want to take him in. Maybe they made an arrangement where he would wait until Jaimie et al. took over the castle, and then they would meet him later, and regroup to join Jon's army?

Very curious about next week, though. We obviously won't see a repeat of what Stannis did last season, but Jon seems to be in the same boat. I'm guessing he will receive help from forces he isn't currently counting on. Though not sure who or what that might be. Maybe the guys who snubbed him previously will have a change of heart? Insurrection from within the Bolton ranks?

One thing I did like about this week's episode is that we saw glimpses of season 1 and 2 Jaimie. He didn't seem as friendly and lovable as he previously did in his scene with Catelyn's brother. He seemed like a stone cold killer who was only concerned with Cersei. And of course, that was necessary to provider the proper motivation to take over the castle without spilling blood.

In regards to next week I can't see how Jon isn't going to win back Winterfell and the North. If he loses then the North remains devided and there's nowhere else to go from there apart from the Night King and his army killing everyone.

It's possible that Jon won't win and will have to retreat further south--leaving the North to get devoured by the White Walkers and people in the South will finally have to admit that WW exist and are an actual threat.

Would be very surprising to see two "armies" in a row succumbing to the Bolton's forces. But on the other hand, it would be a damn shame to have Ramsay killed off. He's too bad to go :lol Surely Rickon Stark will play some role here.

I agree that the writing (with the exception of the Hodor storyline, unless GRR Martin provided that tidbit himself) has been subpar lately as well. The “joke” scene with Tyrion, Messandei, and Greyworm last night was cringe-worthy to me…it was a useless scene IMO, only serving to kill time until the Masters’ navy showed up to attack. I would have rather the show creator’s shortened that scene and give the Blackfish a worthy sendoff.

As much as I would like the Blackfish to survive and live to fight another day, I think his character has to be killed. He told Brienne, “I ran at [the Twins], I’m not running again”…it would kind of cheapen his character if he ran off or escaped yet again. I was hoping that the castle would have been surrendered, and then Jaime would have given the Frey brothers to the Blackfish and Edmure.

(Oh, and as far as my trivia question from my last post, since nobody answered (or cared, LOL), that line was from the 13th Warrior. Clive Russell was one of said 13 warriors, and uttered that line after being injured in an attack at the enemies’ stronghold.)

As far as the impending battle in the North, I’m assuming the forces from the Eyrie (remember the note that Sansa penned in secret?) arrive to turn the tide of battle.

What I DO would have like to see happen (and this coincidentally is similar to the scene I referenced in the 13th Warrior) is that Jon Snow (along with a small strike force….Tormund and Dolorous Edd…and others) infiltrate Winterfell to either open a gate or kill Ramsey. It’s been mentioned several times that Winterfell has “secret” way in and out (the book mentions this also, as well as revealing that Winterfell was built on a natural hot water spring, thus the reason the Starks are able to survive the long winters in the North).

Funny/interesting that the two of the three instances that sieges would have made sense (Stannis’ forces laying siege to Kings Landing, and Stannis’ forces again laying siege to Winterfell), it never got that far. I guess sieges don’t make for good TV, LOL. Could you imagine an entire season devoted to a siege, LOL?

I agree that the writing (with the exception of the Hodor storyline, unless GRR Martin provided that tidbit himself) has been subpar lately as well.

In the commentary after the episode aired, they did indeed say that Martin provided them with that bit of information.

All I have to say is next week's battle better be pretty friggen' epic. I'm getting tired of all the storylines that keep building up then we get no payoff (or it happens off screen).

Agreed on the less than stellar writing this season...

Having said that, it was a fun episode, and it's been an entertaining season.
It just doesn't live up to earlier seasons so far.
