I was defending the writing even up til the Battle last of Winterfell, but episode 4 was the final nail for me. What utter gobshyte the show has descended into.

Sadly upon reflection, I have to agree. I felt genuinely tense when Tyrion got within bowshot. In the old Game of Thrones that would have been SUICIDE, but now he's snuggled into his Plot Armour. Don't get me started on the wildly obvious tactical and strategic errors.

What are you talking about? Last season finale, he had a one on one (not counting the Mountain) with Cersei. She didn't kill him then either.

I recall the meeting. But at this point she's got an active contract out on him; I find it surprising she didn't just smoke him like it ain't no thang.
There's a lot wrong with Episode 4.
Ep 1 and Ep 2 were meh. I liked Ep 3. Didn't like Ep 4...
So we're more or less flat-lined here after 4 episodes... which is not promising.
Goes to show you: you can spend billions on a movie, but if you don't pay up for good writing, what's it all for?

I'm still enjoying it. It has scenes that are very juicy in their own right but yeah, of the criticisms I've seen I haven't seen anyone really successfully defend against them - ridiculous battle tactics and character inconsistencies, missed opportunities etc.

He's lived an awfully long time considering. The show still has time to surprise us, hard to say at this point.
Oh I'm along for the ride no matter what. I'll enjoy the hell out of its last moments, but I must admit this all could have been executed with more time and careful writing. But since this is what we've got, I'm all in.

I used to think people who were complaining about season 7 just loved to complain but I'm starting to see the cracks too. I'm saddened by the lackluster season so far.
How do you top Ned's beheading or the Red Wedding? Those were real shockers.
I suppose if Cersei shot Dani and Tyrion and then walked away with Euron and the screen went to black/credits... that would be a good shocker.
But I bet people would still complain.
We've reached a point where people want closure, which means wrap it up satisfactorily -- and no one seems to be able to agree on that. If they do what they did best -- shock -- no one will be satisfied. Although, that's what made the show great.

It has to be said that both dragons have been killed in the most mundane unbelievable way possible for reasons already mentioned. Viserion takes a single ice javelin to the side and is killed like wtf, did it hit a vital organ...??? Meanwhile Rhaegal takes 3 giant ballista bolts probably bigger than the ice javelin , and as already point outed no scouts, lookouts, dragons can't see an entire fleet of ships from the air. Not to mention despite dragons being a large target, those ballistas do not have pinpoint accuracy.
Most annoying of all, those ballistas are on a swivel. You literally only need to fly directly above it and reign down fire, and you literally cannot be touched by any of them as they all have the same limited motion/direction they can fire. They can't be fired straight above you. Dany could have easily lept on Drogon flew above Cersei and shot flames while moving in a straight line. Boom end of episode, Targ back on throne.
The plot should always be written around the world and that is how Game Of Thrones use to work, now the world is written to fit the plot. Characters behaving and acting abnormal to create drama and tension but not because that character would actually behave that way.

I have to agree that I am also disappointed by this season thus far. Some decent character moments and interactions tying up loose ends but it all feels too rushed. Many SMH scenes and character misalignments with their actions have made this the worst season yet.
The Night King one and done, not explained or expanded upon. Not sure we will get that squeezed in the last two episodes.
Dany’s long character development fighting against what her father became and to be different than every other ruler was just to fall victim to the Targaryen madness when her moment arrives?
Tyrion following blindly behind Dany after everything he’s done, been through, and seen?
The only main characters who have remained consistent are the Hound, Tormund, Aria, Brienne, Jaime, and Jon. Even Jon has become questionable.
I hope the next episode is better but so far I’m not convinced they can handle the ending of this show.

Anyone wonder if those 3 statues in the teaser have anything to do with the story? You know, the statues of Jon, Sansa and Arya?
I was thinking, maybe they are a clue. Jon would certainly be remembered for uniting the kingdom at least, so he gets a statue. Arya, for killing the Night King. Statue. But then, what would Sansa get one for? That got me thinking... maybe she ultimately sits on the Iron Throne. If the statues have any significance, then she has to do something worthy of remembrance. Is it crazy to think that Dani hands the throne over to Sansa? That her current nemesis might actually be a more thoughtful ruler, like when she said troops need rest? It would certainly demonstrate that Dani has learned humility. And she knows her child will one day take the throne... perhaps that's enough for her.

I don't know, I only remember them focusing on the three actors in the teaser -- them all looking on at their own statues. Could be they all die. Jon will. Arya should. But Sansa? Not sure why she has too.
But everyone will die eventually. I mean within the show. I felt like they were looking at their destiny/future. So if this means anything, it means Sansa has yet to do something significant... or die.
