I think I'd be happier with Melisandre and some of the other supernatural elements in the show if they drew a clearer relationship to the return of dragons to this world. As they grow and become stronger magic will become more powerful and common. I have the feeling if Daenerys's dragons were killed that would shut off Melisandre's powers.

(BTW - I haven't read the books, so perhaps I'm completely wrong in my speculation.)

In the books it is that way a bit

I don't think she does anything that obvious, at least as far as I am in the books.

But you guys are okay with the dragons and white walkers?

I agree with some of the prior posts on this thread. I like the introduction of the supernatural / fantasty element, as long as we don't have wizards conjuring spells and throwing lightning bolts, fireballs, and magic missles.

I drew the line at the dragons and decided that anything beyond that would be too much for me. I don't know enough about the white walkers to make an opinion either way. Melisandre's magic is going a bit too far in a show that has so much already going on. I hope Melisandre does not last much longer, and no one else capable of ridiculous magic is introduced. I have a feeling that won't be the case, though.

I enjoyed watching those on the blu-ray set. They helped clear up a lot of the historical aspect of the show and character's dialogue.

There is other magic elements that I can't really talk about here but dragons aren't magical so they have nothing to do with any of it.

It doesn't become terribly distracting in the books... I wouldn't worry about it.

Another fine episode. I like that Jaqen fella. Prolly means he will die next episode.

Only downer is I guess we won't be seeing any battles. Just Theon waking up Bran, "Yo bro, we just took Winterfell."

It is odd to have this big war going on, and not see any of it. It feels like budgetary constraints, but I've not read the books so maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, the actual battles being incidental to the story. :dunno

That's actually how it happened in the book. All the defense was actually gone from Winterfell and Theon only took it with like 20 guys so it's not like much happened anyways.

BTW, the thing at the end with the dragons being stolen and a bunch of Dany's people getting killed did NOT happen in the book, so I have no idea what's going to happen, although I can guess.

Theon did take Winterfell just like that in the book. You had no idea it happened until he woke Bran up.

The season is building to one MAJOR battle. I hope that they are saving all of the money for that episode.

It should be episode 9 - Blackwater

I loved tonights episode. Some things are happening very differently from the book but the outcomes are still the same. The writers are doing a good job of telling a 1000 page story in 10 hours.

There were a couple of things that did not happen in the book. I just started book 3 but I am getting the vibe that there are some book 3 elements in this season.
