I, for one, think it is a good thing that they don't follow the books exactly - especially if they ever get to books 4 and 5. So little happens in those two volumes that they would be hard pressed to make it into a season worth watching.

Seriously, half of the characters I care about are either MIA or referenced in passing in book 4, and I haven't even started book 5 yet....

I have no idea how they will do book 4 and 5

I have a feeling they will have to combine 4 and 5 over two seasons and run their stories parallel like they are in the books. I cannot seem them cramming 4 and 5 into one season but they will have to do them together, at least up until the point that 4 overlaps with 5.

I think it's already been said, but it is pretty much widely thought that A Feast for Crows and a Dance with Dragons will be joined, including everyones storylines, and split into 2 series for TV. The next 2 series will cover the next book, as so much happens in it.

Seriously people, there is no experience like reading, especially THESE books. Even if you have the TV show, reading the novels gives you so much more. They're incredible, so...... :read

Also, doesn't George Martin state at the beginning of the book that you're reading, that the characters not in that book will be in the next?
They are, and near the end the timelines come back into line with each other and continue on together for a while...

And then there are, hopefully, 2 more books to follow!

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A storm of Swords (2 series for TV)
A Feast for Crows
A Dance with Dragons (mixed with aFfC and turned into 2 TV series)
The Winds of Winter (George Martin writing now)
A Dream of Spring

I'm just concerned if they do that they will have so much material to go through that it might get boring, there are a few good parts (book 5 is better than book 4) but there's just so much going on.

Actually from those two books you could spend like an hour just saying who the main characters are and what position their at.

What I meant was, is Rodrick killed in battle, or executed by Theon? If executed, was he executed as brutally as in the show?

The answer might be containing future spoilers depending on how the writers write the show.

Theon killed a different character in that manner in the book. (the character that was mouthing off to him before Roderick arrived in the show) Roderick showed up to retake Winterfell (towards the end of the book) he was betrayed by a bannerman who was really working for Theon. That particular bannerman then turns on Theon too! Roderick gets his arm cut off, dies, and his body is delivered to Winterfell.

Good job Darthviper, great explanation of the differences in the book and show, i wanted to write something like that, just way too lazy.

Great episode, so much happening and all of it was great.

The scene with Tywin/Littlefinger/Arya was awesome.
Just like Arya, I was holding my breath, hoping Littlefinger wouldn't realize who she really was. BTW Can someone tell me what was on that note? I couldn't really see it tho I do think Arya was dumb to steal it. It's a shame she had to waste a kill on it.

Ah Dany, in some ways you really are as crazy as your brother. I have to say that I really enjoyed the Spice Merchant putting her into place. Reminded me if the time where Jorah Mormont told her that all the people care for are good harvests and healthy babies. The people of Westeros are not waiting for you, Dany. The scene where the dragons were stolen isn't from the books but I thought it was a great plot twist. I did wonder why no one tried to do so in the books. It makes sense that people would steal her dragons.

I think they are doing a great job adapting such a complex series of novels. It's simply not practical to have the large number of characters in the book when the same actions can be performed by existing characters. Things like Riverrun are a good example. That whole family storyline has no real bearing on the core storyline, Jaime's imprisonment can be handled just as well within Robb's army. Does it enrich the world of the novels? Yes. If they had 16-20 episodes a season they would have probably kept it in. But they only have 10, so a few things are condensed.

The journey may differ slightly, but they appear to be heading towards the same destination as the novels.

Every major battle has occurred off-screen and referenced by exposition. I think books 4 and 5 will be done much the same to boil down the stories.
