What, if any, movies did you get? That's the only thing keeping me from getting one right now. Just no major movies out yet. V for Vendetta is the only one I'd get that's out so far.
I haven't gotten any yet. I was just going to use Netflix till something great comes out. I really, really, really want the LOTR trilogy to come out on HD DVD. This would make my month, maybe even my year.

Other than LOTR, I would like all the pirate movies to be available. Does anyone know if they are going to be Blu ray or Hd dvd?

No love for Batman Begins? Mission Impossible movies?

I have it and love it. Much faster load times than stand alone HD-DVD players. The image quality is fantastic--once you start watching your movies in HD you really won't want to go back.

I have been impressed with M:I:III, V for Vendetta, King Kong, Batman Begins and Corpse Bride, among others. I have Superman Returns on order as well.

My collection so far:

Wow Tom thats a lot. Did you have a stand alone drive before or did you get those for the 360?

I have been picking these up for a little while now. I have a stand alone player in the bedroom and now the Xbox drive in the front room. When I get the Playstation, that will go in the front room next to the Xbox and I will be able to watch both Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies. I will let them fight their little format war and just sit back and watch my hi def movies in peace.

:peace

It's a good thing I did an in-store pickup while I was away on vacation, as my local Circuit City sold out of their initial shipment.

I really didn't think they would go for an ink jet copy of the $40 off $199 coupon but they took it with no problem.

They had to do a return and rebuy of my in-store pickup order to add the coupon. It didn't scan so they entered it manually.

They also took the $10 gift card from my COD3 purchase making the grand total $161 after taxes. :D

Incredible value when you consider the King Kong and remote pack-in.

I'm currently running my player at 1080i over component and the video quality is stunning. The 5.1 DD+ is a noticable improvement as well. I plan on trying a VGA connection as well as getting a stand alone player in the future but for now, this will hold me over just fine.

Come on Amazon, ship my player!

Relax dude, they don't ship on Sunday.

I'm in no hurry for this. Give me some good movies (LOTR :D ) and then I'll be all over it.

Patience, hahaha something I apparently do not have. I love getting things by mail even though it puts me in agony to wait.

You and me both :lol

Do you have any idea how long of a week I'm going to have waiting for my Wii?
And even when it does come out, I have to work the Ravens game so I won't get it until the end of the day.

I wonder if I can freeze myself and then unfreeze on the 19th? :D

Tom on a scale of 1-10 is the HD Player worth getting? 1 not 10 hell yeah type of thing.

The TV I play my 360 isn't HD at all but I would get it with the thought that down the road I would get an HD TV.

a couple friends in my chromehounds clan have it and say its pretty nice looking even if your tv isnt HD. i'm hoping to get one under my tree next month so im holding off the urge until then. i have the 360 hooked up to my 19" widescreen thats 720p so i will have a pretty decent looking picture until i upgrade the main viewing screen.

If you don't have an HDTV, and one with a fairly large screen, then I don't think you're going to notice a dramatic difference. HD-DVD has six times the resolution of regular DVD, so the leap in quality surpasses that of the change from VHS and DVD. However, with DVD you could appreciate the change on pretty much any TV. With HD, most TV sets out there can't handle the full resolution of a 1080p HD-DVD, so the image gets scaled down to suit your TV's native resolution (which is 720p on a regular HDTV and 480p on a non-HD standard definition TV). If you have a 1080p HDTV that is at least 60" or so, then you will be happy. I have a 51" HDTV that is not 1080p, so my picture is getting downscaled to the lower resolution of my native 720p set. I can certainly tell the difference between HD and regular DVD, but whenever I upgrade to a 1080p set it will really look fantastic.

But the bottom line is--if you are not watching on an HDTV, the Xbox is just going to downscale the image quality to exactly the same as a regular DVD, so it would be a waste of money to get this new drive.

I am anxiously awaiting your review of the Wii. I wasn't going to get one, but now I am considering it.

I'll let you know in only 6 DAYS!!!!:chew

Gamespot.com has a great, albeit, 2 hour video of them getting a Wii, setting it up and playing for at least an hour. It looks amazing! The use of the controller is really going to set this console apart.

I was trying and I couldn't even tell you one launch title for the PS3

Got ya. Guess I won't ask for it then. Sounds like to me unless you're watching Blue Ray or HD DVD's on a big screen they are pretty pointless. Which seems like a giant waste.
