Who owns their Superhero/Villain role better? Is Heath more Joker, or is Robert more Tony Stark?

:wave

Well. . .I would vote none of the above, because both took such significant liberties with the source material. They are both great, memorable performances, but having grown up reading and loving the comics first, Ledger ain't Joker and RDJ ain't Stark in my mind.

RDJ. Honestly, I can't name another Ledger character out of the top of my head. :lol

I only like 1 film where Ledger took center stage.

In RDJ's case, I like 7.

Can't vote for a dead, guy, sorry Heath. RDJ is more relevant at this point and time. Heath will be remembered for ONE role. :wave
How many different roles do you figure RDJ will be remembered for by the masses when all is said and done? His forgettable Sherlock Holmes? The Chaplin that probably 10 boardies total have seen? I'm not saying Ledger was a better actor or anything, but really, folks know RDJ for Iron Man just as they know Ledger for Joker. Neither of these guys has a Gary Oldman type resume.

I would agree with this for the most part. But, RDJ IMO MADE Tony Stark his for the movies. (the TS from the comics just wouldn't come off as well on screen IMO)

What he'll be remembered for is very debatable. For you, one role.

Heath leaves more an impression on me than RDJ did for Stark. Although I love him as the character.

I kind of have to agree with you. The modern take on Sherlock Holmes was done better outright on Sherlock(BBC) and more subversively with House. To me RDJ's best role since his come back was in Tropic Thunder. Heath's big breakout role was Joker. The question of whether he would have sustained that momentum is something no one can answer. Actors have won Oscars, and then watched their careers torpedo due to bad script choices. Daniel Day Lewis is far more accomplished than eithe, yet his films never gross anything close to IM or TDK.

And yeah, neither can hold a candle to Oldman's filmography. Even among their peers(Bale, Dicaprio, Pitt) they really aren't in that league. Both have found success within a certain role.

Heath does a great Tom Waits impersonation, but RDJ's Iron Man is much more interesting.

I think The Joker made Heath Ledger, but Robert Downey JR made Iron Man.

So id have to go RDJ.

Man, whiny crybaby Alfred might be the #1 reason I haven't watched Dark Knight Rises again since seeing it in the theaters.

Do you have kids? If you thought one of them had passed away, I'm sure you'd be crying, too. I don't get why everyone feels the need to make fun of it. He practically raised Bruce since he was eight years old, I'd think it more ridiculous if he didn't cry.

But he was crying the whole movie for all kinds of reasons. All full of self pity. I probably would have enjoyed it a heck of a lot more if not for Alfred.
