Well yeah.. because they're games. Heavy Rain (and Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy) are "Interactive Films" according to the people who made them: Quantic Dream. So you're mostly watching and the actual "playing" you do is minor, meant to simply influence where the story goes. So it's not traditional game play by any means. It's more like watching a movie.

Exactly my point! This is no game! It's not a bad thing. However, this "GAME" could have been far better and frankly one of the best if it had gameplay. After all it is a game right? :peace

Just finished the game in one sitting. Very short. I can appreciate the direction they wanted to go here and like the cinematic feel and atmosphere (although the score which I thought was great at first started grating when the same two songs just repeat throughout the game). That's about where the positives end for me though. Very predictible story with plot holes galore. Which I don't mind so much in video games. However in this one, which is supposed to be all about the story over anything else, it's just flat and cliche. It's very linear. The illusion of freedom and choice is laughable. Multiple endings don't equal arc. The graphics while good, don't live up to the promise for me. The controls, or lack there of, got repetitive and monotonous. The voice acting is atrocious. With all these faults and a game that relies soley on providing emotional weight, this just didn't work for me. I will reiterate that I like the direction they attempted, and hope to see a better attempt along these lines in the future, but it won't work for me unless all the pieces fit.

I agree with you regarding most of your points, but what plot holes are you speaking of? I might be able to think of a couple, but were there actually so many?

I'm thinking about trading this in, guys. I did enjoy it, and it would be nice to keep it as a showpiece type of game when friends and company are over, but right now Gamestop is having a bonus 50% trade-in promotion and I can get almost the entire amount that I paid for this. There are so many games coming out this season and I want to reduce how much I actually spend.

Whoa haha the comments section of that article is really riled up.

While there are some actual plot holes, I think the writer of the article became a bit overzealous in his dislike of the game that he mistakes a plot hole for perhaps a stretch in the suspension of disbelief or a narrative choice made to downplay certain story elements (i.e. Mad Jack's murders and such) in favor of progression. Most of it are actually just results of bad writing. Kinda like an episode of Lost in which a story point never gets anywhere and there's a deus ex machina to tie stuff together.

Yeah, so I'm probably gonna trade this in (need to pay for FFXIII and GoWIII). Anybody want to convince me not to?

I really honestly couldn't ever imagine wanting to play through this ever again personally. I say trade it in while you can still get top dollar. Better yet, sell it here or ebay and get even more than trade in value.

Did you pay full price for it, woff? I thought you decided on waiting 'til it gets bargain priced? Or did you rent it? Shame you were so disappointed (though maybe that's not the right word since you were iffy on it to begin with).

I think I enjoyed it enough, and at the very least the visuals are a good distraction.

I did one bettter. I borrowed it from my neighbor.:lol

I am loving it so far but this has to be one of the most depressing games I have ever played.

Wait till the end. Well depending on what ending you get. LOL! Glad you are enjoying it. It is interesting and has a story that rivals a real movie.

Well ____! You'll have to lemme know what they all are. I'm far to lazy and youtubed a few of them. LOL!

Will do it might take me a bit but I will get them plus it never hurts to collect a trophy or two along the way.:D

I just googled it to see if anyone else felt the same way and apparently I'm not alone. This article could give more examples than I could seeing as though I didn't get all of the holes on my playthrough, but I did get a lot of them. #1 on the list especially had me scratching my head.

I didn't have that big of a problem with this. She's an investigative journalist, she's probably heard of his name before at one point or another while talking to some of the victim's families.

~~My biggest plothole problem was the last one on that list.
Shelby walked back there, smashed the guy in the head with a typewriter, and Lauren didn't hear anything??

:rock :rock :rock This will be my first platinum trophy.

Nice!! It was my second one. Definitely a great game IMO. I don't have a problem overlooking the plotholes as long as the overall story impresses me.....kind of like those cheesy B movies that are cult classics.

I started this game yesterday and while it is fun it just seems like a movie where you make choices. Not much as far as normal games go. It's like the Sims with button commands. The story is good but beyond that I'm not sure it makes a great game.
