I understand. Yeah, we can do that. Several people here DO know me personally, though... and many are on my FB with other friends and family and can verify.

I took the time to donate to your cause (it wasn't a lot but it's money I worked for): 1) I have 2 boxers 2) 1 of my boxers almost died at 11 months and it cost 3k at Xmas to care for him, so I understand the strain of lack of funds to save a loved one (we didnt have xmas BTW) 3) I support my fellow freaks

With that being stated you need to explain this to me and all who donated to help you in your dire time.

ND Nation Thread

:Sigh: Figured that crap would make it here, too. Here's the deal, which I had to share on another site earlier as well...

1) The Rocky thing is legit, he will be taken care of and any money donated through his fund is sitting in a Paypal account, untouched.

2) Yes, I did take my son down to Florida for the game weekend as part of his 10th birthday. However, the trip absolutely did *not* cost anywhere close to what is being alleged. There's simply no way I could have afforded it, for one. Two, the only thing that made it possible was that it could be done with a relatively short drive to my mother's house in Orlando, and about 2-3 hour round trip drives between there and the Miami area. Buying tickets was never an option once other financial situations came to pass. Thankfully, though, I was able to get 2 tickets from generous contact. All told, the trip cost me $384.17 (mostly in gas), which I had to put on a credit card with a $500 limit.

Now, I understand this might upset some people who have donated to the Rocky thing. I now completely get how bad it looks. To that end, if you have made a donation through his fund and want a refund I will do so without hesitation. Like I said, the money is still sitting in a Paypal fund anyway. Just know that I did not exploit my innocent dog's situation in order to go on an "extravagant" trip. I compartmentalized the two things as much as possible, probably to my detriment. But I was also honest and upfront about taking Donovan on that trip on my Facebook. There was a post several weeks ago where I bemoaned that I probably couldn't take him and FB friends were encouraging me that I should... saying it would be a birthday of a lifetime that he would never forget and that I had to take him if I could figure out a way. These are some of the very same people who have been following Rocky's surgery fundraiser via my Facebook as well (which is where I'd say a majority of the funds have been raised... through family and friends there) and they also made donations. I posted while on the trip to my Twitter and Facebook, including photos. I wasn't hiding a thing. Some people here even knew I as going to the game.

What happened on ND Nation is most unfortunate, however, and was my fault in bad judgment. I posted a single post about Rocky's Story there about a week and a half ago and we got 5-6 new donations from people through that posting (best guess as it's impossible to tell exactly where they come from). I was wrong not to also mention that I was going down to Florida on that site. I'm now painfully aware of how that looks. So, last week someone saw the pics from the trip on my Facebook/Twitter (which were public), jumped to the conclusion that the whole Rocky thing was an elaborate fraud to pay for an expensive trip to South Florida and it got ugly really, really fast. In the end, I am banned from that site. And that's fine. But a few people (none of whom even donated by the way) have gotten very personal with this... People were doing Google searches on me, digging up and posting links to old dating site profiles, making fun of Rocky, questioning whether he even exists... all kinds of ridiculous stuff. I've had to make both my Facebook and Twitter profiles completely private, and even my daughter and ex-wife have been harassed on Facebook. It's crazy.

To that end, I'm now doing what I probably should have done all along and keeping the Rocky stuff focused on my personal Facebook, which only friends and family have access to. I posted it here and a couple other places because I frankly thought it might help. I know some of you personally, including Dave. As much as I was humiliated on ND Nation, I can ultimately accept my fate there... because I didn't have any "real life" friends or acquaintances there. SSF, however, is wholly different. I have true friends here.

Anyway, again I am sorry for how this looks. That said, I will indeed refund any donations anyone made through here as well if they so choose. While Rocky's fund may take a hit I'm still confident I will work it out somehow. He will be just fine.

If anyone wants to contact me directly or wants more info, feel free to do so. And I will also update people on Rocky in the future, regardless And of course I'll provide receipts and photos, post-op.

Thanks,

Carl

Fair enough. Thank you for the reply and I look forward to some pictures of a healthy and recovered Rocky.

The only reason I even saw that thread is because I go daily to the Rocky fund site to see progress; with high hopes of success. I've even posted the site to my FB account.

Wasn't trying to sully your name; but I felt this need to be addressed. I for one would not spend on something I really can't afford when I know every dime I have NEEDS to go somewhere else.

Oh... It's completely fine and I totally understand. I didn't take any offense... just didn't want that ugliness to affect the Freaks, too.

And BuffyGirl, I completely understand that opinion as well and take no offense at that, either. Truth be told, it wasn't done lightly. And i consulted with several personal friends before deciding to make the trip, because they had contibuted as well and I wanted to make sure it was an ok thing to do for my son. I don't know if I'd ever had used the $500 credit card toward Rocky or not, but I have saved over $2,300 cash of my own money towards his surgery and that has remained untouched. Also, after another couple of paycheck cycles I should be able to make up the rest of the difference based on the money that's already been raised and get the surgery done. One of the vets I've talked to may even work with me to go ahead and schedule it within the next week or so, which would be very cool.

I removed my post but what I was basically saying was...

If somehow your trip was only under $400, that's still a LOT to go to the surgery that wouldn't have come out of other people's pockets for your pet.

I do hope this surgery is a success.

No need to respond again, since you already replied to it.

I donated ( I think I was the first actually ) and personally I have no problem whatsoever with this. :dunno
You took your son out on his birthday with some funds you managed to put together ?. Good for you , hope you had a nice time. :):wave

If I had any chance to take my son out on his 10th birthday with money from a credit card or whatever I'd do it. Like you say you've not touched the paypal donated money.

I understand people might be angry that you went on a trip whilst accepting donations but where would it end ?. I suppose if someone took a photo of you buying a dvd there would be a problem ?. :cuckoo:

Don't feel bad man , I can understand why you were hesitant about going and that alone shows the true nature of the situation but you can't be punished for taking your son out on his birthday and you're not in the wrong for trying to raise some cash for your pets surgery ( like you originally said , the surgery is actually more than you're trying to raise also ).

Llet us know how it goes. :clap

Thank you, sir. And will do. :duff

I'm actually going to pause the fundraiser for a couple of days. I may even be able to lower the goal as I've saved a couple hundred more and may be able to make up a lot of the difference myself with the next 2-3 paychecks. We'll see. Anyway, I'll continue to update here. Thanks!

I was going to post it to my other Facebook page but I'll hold off to see if you will need me too first.

Yeah, wait. I'm gonna talk to the different vets and recalculate first. I anything, we'll be closer to the goal and need less to get it done. :)

Update: Okay, so I did the budgeting this weekend. Gonna put another $300 of each of my next 3 paychecks toward the $2400 I've already saved. With the $4400 raised via the fundraiser so far, that means we're less than $600 from the goal! :rock The vet can do the surgery in early march. I've turned the Fundraiser back on, but even if we don't raise the additional $600 by then I'm pretty sure they'll work with us and give me a couple more weeks to pay the difference. :)

Another update: Surgery officially scheduled for March 11! :rock

We're still $600 short of the full total (including the additional lab fees) but I'm confident we'll be okay. :) After saving $3,400 and raising another $4,400 in donations 600 bucks suddenly seems kinda meager. :)

On behalf of Rocky, thanks so much to everyone who has helped!
