Kind of like this!

In a line dedicated to the essence of a character, I personally can't imagine that it wouldn't incorporate the playfulness and love of life (and a good time) that these 2 young hobbits possess.

First off, all four characters would have to be in their Shire, Elessar's coronation, or Grey Havens attire for this to work and from the sound of things, at least in regard to their Shire costuming, that isn't going to happen.
Secondly, from what we've seen so far the bases are circular and I'm not sure how SS could pull this off while still making it look like a single circular base. Besides, what happens if [for some reason] someone doesn't purchase all four Hobbits?

I think it's a great idea. Probably won't be done, but could be cool if considered. I'm guessing if they pose the two together, obviously be meaningful scene for each pair. Mount Doom already done for Frodo/Sam, I need to watch the films again to think of some good choices. I would love to see a Merry and Pippin in the branches of Treebeard, but that would be more of a diorama. I don't know how they'd combine all four in a single multi-pieced scene using maquettes.

When I think of the essence of Merry and Pippin I envision them kicking back and enjoying their pipe-weed. I don't see SS making such a maquette though...

I don't pretend to know which direction SS will take where Merry and Pippin maquettes are concerned, but I can't think of a better way for SS to portray their essence than to highlight their friendship and portray them as the fun loving hobbits they are....esp. if the two are part of one maquette.

Something like these perhaps?

The Eaglemoss pieces really aren't my cup of tea , but they seem to have done a great job of capturing the essence of each character.

No?...I thought you would have liked them woodsy...I know they are small, but they are very detailed and very well sculpted. There was 180 of them in the collection. That gives me just about every character I could ask for. There have been so many times other members here have said they would love a particular character or a character in a particular pose...and generally I have it with the 'Eaglemoss Collector's Models'. They did 3 sets of Chess sets too. Superb collection IMHO.:yess:

Certainly a possibility, though based on SS's response, clearly nothing is written in stone. Personally, I'd take a 1/6 scale Sam vs Shelob maquette over a Sam and Frodo maquette any day of the week.

Am thinking Sam vs. Shelob piece would be a throwback to the diorama line? Although I've got all of the dios, I personally am not keen on revisiting that line anytime soon.

Yeah, nothing against the pieces themselves, it's just for me the size doesn't work. I remember when SS 1st launched the dio. line with Frodo vs Gollum. Even though the sculpts [done by Trevor] were excellent, I was dead set against it because of the size of the dio.....it just seemed too trinket-like for my liking, though I did eventually come to appreciate it.

SS has said they do plan on incorporating the dio. and maquette lines on certain pieces, though they have not said when or how often they will do this.

Question : Is the Lord of the Rings diorama line still active? Collectors have had no new releases or previews for a very long time. – AND – I’m a huge fan of the LOTR Diorama line.Do you plan on continuing this line, and what can we expect to see, if so? – AND – I think it safe to say with three of your last five LOTR dioramas still available a significant amount of time after they first went up for pre-order Sideshow must be somewhat disappointed in the overall sales of this specific line. Is it going to be the third LOTR line to “bite the dust”? If so, how long before that axing occurs?

Answer : The diorama line has more or less transitioned into the LOTR statue series, which currently has excellent momentum. Our designers and sculptors are greatly enjoying the freedom of working on statues, where they can really design for iconic presentations of ALL characters, rather than working from scene specific events and related limitations.

For me the Maquette line is a far superior line to the Dios, sculpt and likeness wise. But I understand SS have suggested that there may be some crossover between the Maquette line and the Dio line...so we could end up with the best of both worlds...Win, win you might say:yess:

I can't disagree, though I'd say Trevor did a spectacular job with the dio. likenesses of Sam and Frodo. Personally, I don't like making comparisons where different scales are concerned as a larger scaled statue should be superior, if for no other reason than the larger amount of detailing the sculptor can add to the sculpt itself.

I agree. A little bit of variety isn't going to hurt....people will always have the option of buying what they like and avoiding what they don't.

i'd like a maquette/dio of the hobbits all together and why no throw in a ringwraith for good measure:)

As awesome a maquette/dio. that would be, it would also cost a small fortunate....and I'm not sure a statue of the 4 hobbits huddled together like scared rabbits is how SS intends on capturing their essence. :monkey3
