That was actually improv on Nicholson's part. He called it "the bird dance".

Making of Batman (1989) - The Joker - YouTube
I always assumed this was one of his first experiences with Batman. Interesting to hear him mention reading the comics as a kid. I think he genuinely enjoyed this movie, which supports the job he did. It lends credence to the old saying, "do something you love, and you'll never work a day in your life".
Personality-wise, I think he was born to play the role. The fact that he sells it so easily despite being short and chubby, the polar opposite of the Joker, reinforces that.

Not enough anarchy and chaos in his Joker, Heath wins

****** Joker for a ****** generation. That's why Ledger's worked with Nolan's film.
Jack Nicholson was good as the joker I hope they make a movie about Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, and hopefully Jack will reprise his role as the Joker as well Keaton that would be great movie
I don't mind Heath's portrayal, but yeah.. I had to laugh at that too.****** Joker for a ****** generation. That's why Ledger's worked with Nolan's film.
I believe it is in development with DC Animated. They've done a very good job with their direct-to-DVD movies, and they've only been getting better.
best post ever!
