Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - TDKR Bane Collectible Figure Full Specs & Pics

Looks great overall, can't wait to have it on my shelf. The only issue brought up that I can agree with is the questionable placement of the mask vs. where his nose would go, but it's not too much of a bother.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - TDKR Bane Collectible Figure Full Specs & Pics

i can see that too, but my impression from the film was that he probably didn't have a nose under there anyway, so i'm okay with it.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - TDKR Bane Collectible Figure Full Specs & Pics

How does everyone plan to weather the coat? I'm thinking blow dryer on slow, a little sandpaper and maybe under a light.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - TDKR Bane Collectible Figure Full Specs & Pics

It looks basically the same as the proto, I must say, it looks pretty awful. Here's to hoping they do a DX, otherwise....no Bane for me.

Blowdryer and light won't make anything on it.

Light snadpaper, alhtough it is fake leather and you will likely damage it too much.

You could use pastel or paint (drybrush technique) or some paint washes.

I really wish you'd do some videos on weathering. What you consider easy, has me shaking under the covers.

My brother has done some props and some bootleg replicas (he works as a graphic designer for studios) and he said it all depends on the material.

He made this one and another weatherd TFA jacket. The weathered one he made isn't pretty, he thinks the guy who had him make it wanted like a zombie Cap/been through complete Hell Cap.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - TDKR Bane Collectible Figure Full Specs & Pics

why settle for substandard mediocrity ??

Because it's not? I know the figure isn't perfect, but it's certainly nowhere near being a "substandard mediocrity". The body is much closer than before so describing it as being "nowhere near accurate" just sounds too presumptuous even for an "opinion".

Here's what I think is actually wrong with this figure:
- No-nose syndrome
- Head should be a tiny bit smaller
- Traps still need to be a bit bigger
- Less abs, more belly
- Vest and coat need weathering
- Wrong-colored straps on the vest
- Pants aren't baggy
- Pants color is not completely accurate to the actual production design

Now having read the majority of the old complaints across the whole thread, I kept tabs on what people were complaining about or wanted to be changed and here's what I think HT did right with the final product:

- Improved HS by removing the exposed skin under the back of the mask
- Hardy sculpt is still spot-on with good choice of brow expression
- Bulkier body, which combined with the vest, makes his traps look bigger
- Large-enough-but-not-too-large arms which nails Bane's look (both the stuntman and Hardy)
- Detailed sculpted scar on the back
- Added zippers on the pants
- Added water effects on Batman cowl
- Choosing articulated arms over rubber (while the double-jointed elbows would've been great for the "boss" pose, the joints would look more jarring for a bare-armed character like Bane)
- Choice of color for pants actually matches the harsh lighting reflected during sewer fight (sort of like how many Alien figures from ALIENS are colored blue because they look blue in the film despite actually being brown)

With that, I think the pros equalize with the cons in their own right. Average figure for the keen eye, but still a good figure to stand out well enough on the shelf. Not bad, but not perfect either. I'm definitely happy with the figure simply because I find that HT did enough improvements that made the figure that much better than before. While said changes may seem miniscule for the perfectionists, I personally think they made huge a difference especially for a character that is characterized by his physicality and haunting presence. :)

Well I can tell you that light and blowdryer doesn't work for my experience only.

I only used pastel acrylics washes and drybrushes techniques.
Alos some light sandpaper here and there. and I can say that it does work perfectly

Here's pics using all those techniques

the only thing they changed that i'm not crazy about is the water effect on the cowl. but it's hardly a deal-breaker.

i'm with ronri ~ overall, it's got enough improvements to move it from okay to yay in my book.

I applaud you sir. Instead of some nonsense unproductive whining of "this sucks" or "what a horrible attempt" etc you actually make a constructive analysis.

Like I mentioned he says it all depends on the material.

That's a great analysis.

Free speech- I fought for it and I applaud it... but instead of whining try to see the fact you're getting a highly detailed collectible figure of a terrific character... or you could simply not have had the chance to get the figure.

If you don't get it, state why. Not just "it sucks, I'm awesome because I bash other's opinions and this isn't what I like and you're a doofus if you like it."

For me? The arms look small. It just doesn't say "Bane" or "Tom Hardy was a badass" to me. I'd rather larger arms, bigger traps that would result in a more ominous stance.

Am I going to get it? You betcha.
