I think everyone could figure it out anyway, but I added labeling to each helmet to clarify which HT helmet is which just in case. :)

If it is a structural problem, as it seems to me, then that would mean that the horizontal part of the visor would be too long on the sides. This might even cause the whole "face" to seem too rounded from the front. The helmet looks "flatter" and wider in the movie. If I'm not just being fooled by camera angles and head tilts, I'd say that could be why the 1/6 helmets never look right to most fans. It could also be why so many have preferred the Medicom helmet (too bad it was made for a figure that is probably closer to 1/7 scale).

wow wow wow wow. i love it, man. it's difficult to be able to discern what is making something look off, despite all the characteristic parts being there. such simple tweaks once theyre identified (and it isnt easy to identify most of the time). here's to hoping hot toys can swallow their pride and address it. they've got a year before they even have to give us a delayed date!

Okay, here goes. Disclaimer: I am nowhere near an expert on any of this; there are members here who are, and can better evaluate these helmets. With that said, I am putting a great deal of effort into making a screen accurate ESB Boba Fett in 1/6 scale. In studying the helmets (movie and toy), I think most companies might be unnecessarily exaggerating the front "face" part of the helmet.

Here's another attempt to illustrate my point with reference lines. The camera angles don't match up (again), so there will be some disparity. But, going with what I have right now, it seems to me that the movie helmet is close to a 50/50 split between the front "face" part and the back part, with the side panels being closer to dead-center. The 1/6 helmets usually make the front part take up about 2/3 of the profile, with the back part making up only about 1/3.

The only 1/6 helmet I've seen that tries to make it closer to 50/50 is the Medicom helmet.

The Hasbro Titanium does a better job than my photo would suggest because I didn't turn it enough. Just look at the amount of visor showing in each one to get a sense for how it would look if I wasn't so horrible at photography.

Thanks man! This illustrates where it went wrong really well. I somehow like the newer esb one less than the rotj one however. Guess I’ll keep waiting...

I have the ROTJ figure, but I'm on the fence about getting this version. I want a Fett that covers both version, though from what folks are saying they each have their own unique styles and colors. Is it worth getting the new version too?

Hey guys. Has anyone bought from Leong collector or Okataraya store? I want to get this and his prices seem decent.

worth or not totally up to your collection taste and your..wallet

like me already have ROTJ deluxe version and no interest in picking this ESB... but of course if Im rich I dont mind picking extra ESB Fett for display.

Same here. I had intended my ROTJ Fett to be the only one but the colour/weathering of ESB is winning me over.
I think I'll end up with two Fetts. The slippery slope of collecting, hey.

This ESB version seems to have a bit too much weathering. Am I right?

I past on the ROTJ figure as I felt that it was too dark (reds and greens) and did not fir the mold of my childhood memories. The ESB lighter hues with a ****load of weathering is the essence of what Boba Fett means to me.

I love the deluxe version. I'm definitely upgrading my Sideshow figure even though I still think it looks great. But I know the HT figure will be generally better in the details and even just the body.

I agree SS is still great!!

It really is. I packed up my Sideshow yesterday so I could sell it on ebay, and all the while I kept thinking, "wow, this figure is really quite well done." The only criticisms I have of it are the chest armor shapes which were pretty off (not to mention the plastic backing that gave it the overall boxy look), and the too-short forearms, which I "fixed" by just not pushing the hands all the way in.

However, I love the deluxe look since that's what the original 12" Kenner figure was like. I loved that toy! To me it's second only to the ESB look, so this is the perfect Fett for me, having the best of both worlds.

Slightly off topic: I have to wonder why Joe Johnson/the designers of Boba Fett went from the colorful version of Fett in the prototype, to the shades of green version in ESB, and then back to a colorful version for ROTJ. Did Kershner feel the character would more likely have more muted colors and insist they change it?

Nice! Thank you for posting that pic of the hero helmet in hand. That's one of the best straight-on pics I've seen of the actual movie helmet, and it helps quite a bit as a reference point for scrutinizing the various 1/6 helmets. I had to photograph my HT, SS, and Medicom helmets individually because lens distortion gets bad when they're all lined up together. Here they are side-by-side with the hero helmet.

HelmetFronts01a.jpg

I did the same thing from the profile perspective. Since the EFX helmet was cast from a mold of that original hero helmet, I'm using a profile shot of the EFX one for these side-by-side comparisons. I'll say it again: the front/face of the helmet is supposed to be flatter than HT and SS have made them. It affects how they look from the front by distorting the proportions of the visor, which is a key reason why people are generally disappointed with these 1/6 helmets.

I can't understand how Medicom seems to have essentially figured it out (years ago), but not the others since. It might not be a big enough deal to most, but it probably matters enough to quite a few when it comes to a purchase decision. There's enough time before the actual release for Hot Toys to notice this and make corrections, but that likely won't happen since they already went to the effort of making a new one instead of just repainting their ROTJ one. They'd still have a lot of work to do with the armor and body anyway if total screen accuracy was the goal, so it's probably not even worth it to them to address the helmet at this point. Still going to be the best 1/6 Boba (all things considered) out there when it's released.

You’ve seen 1/6 scale Medicom, but I just can’t get over the sculpt of 1/12 Medicom helmet - aka Mafex
