You show the door to newly bought figures way too soon and way too much.:lecture:lol

:lol The Death Star Gunner I only bought cause Sideshow sent out that $50 coupon. Had to buy something with it, right?

But I probably have owned as many 1/6 figures that were sent packing as I currently own (19). It's the result of having a small apartment with little-to-no storage space. Oh, and no will power to speak of, which is what lands them here in the first place. Annoyingly I feel like 2 figures per detolf shelf is the max before it looks too busy/cluttered for me. But that could also be a result of my lighting, as figures are too dark when they aren't toward the front of the shelf. Maybe with improved lighting I could switch to 3 per shelf.

Leia is actually pretty affordable right now from Hong Kong, especially for folks abroad who deal with high shipping from Sideshow or customs. Would have been tempting if I hadn't already pre-ordered her with an NRD (again that willpower).

Did they forget to paint the dots on her wrist?

Yeah, I used a $50 coupon for Leia Hoth with Sideshow and the NRD, so no backing out for me.

Wow - 19 figures. I wish I had your self (and space-imposed) control. I really need to do an inventory but my guess is I'd have to be well over 80 figs now (SW and Indy only though except one GB) but about a 1/3 are custom figures that cost under $100. While most salivate over some new MCU fig, I'm toiling away on an Ugnaught and Rancor Keeper.:lol

Only about a dozen of mine would be "full price" figs - I usually only ever grab great deals that come up - and half of those would be from 3-5 years ago with somewhat lower prices.

The eyes are definitely looking flatter and duller than they were on the incredible proto, which is a shame. And of course like usual they couldn't resist making her a lot more tan. ;) Still though, it's a great looking sculpt and figure which I'm sure will look even better in hand.

Hey Dave. I was just about to basically post the exact same comment, but using this comparison shot (Proto right, Production left)...

Totally agree. Same head sculpt as the Proto, just,as usual (as always) a bit of a let down on the factory paint job.

Well i can see now why people were afraid of the skin tone being not pale enough. Also the way they painted her eyes/eyebrows gives her a different expression than the proto.

In this comparison it almost looks like they added more of the upper eyelids in the production version. Doesn't seem like that's really there on the proto.

I realize some folks are perfectionists but come on here. There is the usual proto to production drop-off and then there is this. You have to stare pretty hard at a macro photo to notice the slightest difference. And even that could be down to lighting, slight angle difference, or different camera. If this disappoints you best be prepared to pay big bucks for the very best of custom painters or be an amazing painter yourself.

I agree this looks great.

I don't know how you do it, I just am not wired this way. Between my toy habit and other interests I have to rent storage. Keep telling myself that someday I'll give up the convenience of my condo for a full blown house. Also my detolfs range from 2-4 on a shelf, I prefer 2 as well but it simply is not possible.

I gotta agree that I like the in hand more than the proto. The proto had ‘lemur eyes’ in a lot of the pics and I this was a pass for sure if it had stayed that way. The new one looks more natural. In the comparison above the bright lighting from one side is really playing with the shading as well.

I think the biggest difference is just with the size of the irises. They were bigger and focused inward a bit more on the proto, which was not only a more attractive look but seems closer to what it probably should be:

So far I'm a bit underwhelmed! I know it's a toy, but it's very plastic looking!
I guess that's due to female characters having softer skin.

HT did a very nice job on this, but I'm just not into that Lemur Leia look. I have the ANH, may spring for the Endor which is excellent.

Wow. When you're toiling away on a custom Rancor Keeper figure, you seriously know you've got a problem. ;)

:lol

But I'd argue that the coolest looking SW characters are the minor "blink and you miss them" ones like Greedo and Ree Yees - which are the ones I make customs of. Ones like Bespin Guard and Ugnaughts will never be made by anyone, so I make those too.

I'm happy I have this coming but I do wish they had covered the tops of the ears a bit more like in this shot. They look a little too prominent the way Hot Toys did them. Part of the trick would have been to make the hair a bit fuller overall.

Are you getting Joost's carbon freeze dio? Ugnaughts would be excellent for that. As for the welding torch it would be an excellent accessory if HT ever follows through on their threat to make the cockpit. Could this be a breadcrumb? ;)

Hair looks a little dark - Leia's hair is pretty clearly brown.

But then Hot Toys does seem to want to paint almost all hair black no matter what - maybe they'll reissue their copper-top Luke farmboy with black hair in honor of Just-For-Men Luke from TLJ.:lol

I absolutely love his work, and the finishes/craftsmanship on the Carbon Freeze (and was 100% onboard when he announced), but the way he decided to lay it out didn't appeal to me - by shrinking the distances etc. and no steps.

I would have preferred a sectional cut through the chamber (so a third of the circle in top view) that had a correct deck width (not reduced as he has done) and some stairs in the back. I think it's all a bit cramped as-is, especially with that unbelievably cool claw he's done.

I really wanted the full size set shrunken down to 1/6 (all dimensions intact) but cut into a one third wedge, which would better give the feel of the chamber, and allow display of all the figs you really need in there (yeah ugnaughts for one) - but that's the set designer in me.:lol

But wow - he's hit it out of the park with the details, lights etc.
