What is guyver's opinion of this figure?
I realize some folks are perfectionists but come on here. There is the usual proto to production drop-off and then there is this. You have to stare pretty hard at a macro photo to notice the slightest difference. And even that could be down to lighting, slight angle difference, or different camera. If this disappoints you best be prepared to pay big bucks for the very best of custom painters or be an amazing painter yourself.
So, which one would you prefer on your shelves? ANH version or TESB version?
I absolutely love his work, and the finishes/craftsmanship on the Carbon Freeze (and was 100% onboard when he announced), but the way he decided to lay it out didn't appeal to me - by shrinking the distances etc. and no steps.
I would have preferred a sectional cut through the chamber (so a third of the circle in top view) that had a correct deck width (not reduced as he has done) and some stairs in the back. I think it's all a bit cramped as-is, especially with that unbelievably cool claw he's done.
I really wanted the full size set shrunken down to 1/6 (all dimensions intact) but cut into a one third wedge, which would better give the feel of the chamber, and allow display of all the figs you really need in there (yeah ugnaughts for one) - but that's the set designer in me.
But wow - he's hit it out of the park with the details, lights etc.
I think the biggest difference is just with the size of the irises. They were bigger and focused inward a bit more on the proto, which was not only a more attractive look but seems closer to what it probably should be:

The point of the comparison shot above was to highlight precisely what you are pointing out... that the sculpt between Proto and Production are identical (or at least as “identical” as possible given the molding and mass production requirements). I worked on the Production photo with my photo editor in the comparison above to try to eliminate as many of the paint inconsistencies as I could to try to isolate the consistency of the sculpt.
Otherwise, here is your comparison:
I guess I should have made this more clear. I think there is clearly some noticeable drop off in the paint work, but no more so than any sculpt we see when the Proto is done by JC. Might actually be a little less with this Leia. Can’t wait to get her home and pose and light her myself...

That’s a good thing though. Having two immaculate sculpts, but still being able to say one has outdone the other. That’s when you just keep both.
No doubt some compromises had to be made regarding size, it's just some of the coolest scenes from Star Wars are not very feasible to reproduce in full 1/6. For example I have the truscale emperor's throne room and while not full 1/6 it is an amazingly beautiful representation. As a kid I remember thinking how cool it would be to scratch build star wars scenes but in reality I could never come close to doing it as elegantly as Joost. His dios have really added to my enjoyment of the hobby. He also has indicated that there will eventually be add on stairs so I am looking forward to that.
Regarding your rancor keeper, does that mean you are also doing a 1/6 rancor?
I think it’s beautiful. Makes my ANH Leia look like someone else. Perhaps it’s time to part with that one, the costume itself was never great as many have stated and the head sculpt has been outdone as well now.
Man this looks phenomenal. This is definitely up there with Old Han as the best sculpt for a Star Wars human figure, no question. If they drop the ball on the ESB Han sculpt then I might just cry since they got this Leia so right. Anyone else planning to focus mostly on ESB versions of the characters?

Liking what I'm seeing so far. We knew there would be a bit of a shift from proto to prod - there always is.
Why is that though? Like I know production goes down an assembly line, but why can't they paint it as good as the proto? Cause that's all I think it is, the paint job.
Doesn't JC Hong usually paint the protoype?
