Probably because JC spends a lot longer making one sculpt look the best he can. They couldn't replicate that on a production line without raising prices and lengthening production times.

Because when it comes to mass producing something the quality almost always dips.

Its like going to a 5-Star restuarant and having an amazing burger thats made when you order it as opposed to a McDonalds burger thats been sitting there already made waiting for someone to order it.

In this comparison it almost looks like they added more of the upper eyelids in the production version. Doesn't seem like that's really there on the proto.

If only they had done that with the ALIEN Ripley figure, would have helped her look exactly like Sigourney Weaver.

I've never seen a Hot Toys prototype for sale, or otherwise owned by a collector that I'm aware of.

I think the biggest difference is just with the size of the irises. They were bigger and focused inward a bit more on the proto, which was not only a more attractive look but seems closer to what it probably should be:

That was the first thing I thought glancing at that comparison. It definitely loses some of Fisher's distinctiveness with the smaller iris diameter.

Yeah the production head is basically the proto without some extra finessing and a few added layers and washes of paint, that they clearly just don't have the time for with the hundreds of heads they have to work on.

Probably ends up in JC Hong's collection. That's what I'd be doing if it was my company, and my proto sculpt.

I might cancel my Pre-order. Nothing wrong with what the initial production images/youtube video has shown so far, the product looks good. My heart is just not into spending about $285 CAN for this right now as I feel more “sour” than “excited” with the thought.

Its looking like there will be no 1/6 purchase from me in 2018 as there is nothing (aside from Hoth Leia which I might cancel) I have on preorder. Maybe a good thing as per the expensive 2017 (three BW GB, Ripley, all four NECA TMNT)

As a collector I am sure I will feel the withdrawal!!!
