The idea, while a nice one, is a pipe dream. We've seen BARE BONES MMS releases and Hot Toys still charges a ton for them. The original post actually happening is about as much a possibility as Hot Toys and Sideshow giving these out for free. It'll never happen.
They'd still charge $160+ for just a regular old body, head sculpt and doll clothes, if not more.
Look at Catwoman. All she comes with is a dinky little pistol and she's $200 right out the door. Wolverine? All he comes with is a gigantic paper weight and that sucker is $240!
We'll never see any $100-$160 figures anymore. Those days are gone. Even things like true types and grey shoe box displays for Iron Man figures are expensive now. In fact, we're reaching a point where standard/basic releases are $200+ and DX are $300. It's insane.
Of course people would like cheaper figures, most, if not all of them are over priced. Making "bare bones" versions isn't going to make that happen though, not with all of Hot Toys' price hikes.
Kyle Reese with a shotgun? You bet they'd charge $190 for it, just because they can. Those others? Same deal. Some of you seem to think they price these based on materials, boxes and accessories. Nope. They price them according to line, license and character. There's really no rhyme or reason to it, they charge what they want because people will buy them.
