Yeah as the owner of a company that prides themselves in everything they do. I'd be pretty pisssed to see one of my high end collectible products trashed like a low end Barbie "just for laughs".

Whether Harrison Ford approves the likeness or not, I'd be putting any figures him in hold as well. Simply on principal.

It's not like HT are struggling for money or lack of figures to make.

That said, they have shown Bespin Han in the Leia promo pics. And he fits in the 40th anniversary line. So I think that version will come out at some point relatively soon.

Maybe, but again, I doubt Harrison Ford had any clue it was a high end collectible. I don’t think he keeps up on the different tiers of merchandise, and to him it might as well have been a Hasbro doll from the local Walmart.

Also, do we know if the SW actors need to approve likenesses or just Lucasfilm? I was under impression from things that Carrie and Mark have said that they all signed over their likenesses early on, so they have no say where their face ends up.

The talk show incident is not the reason this is delayed, but let?s say that it is... then it?s childish...
If so much of the fanbase is asking for it and that?s the reason.. it?s disrespectful to us fans.

But yea, that?s not the reason.

Maybe this is the next dx. It should be, as it can come with the carbonite block and they can fleece us for big money. They have to know it will do huge business. It is a slam dunk if they get it right. Maybe getting a new Chewbacca right is the holdup? Either way, this will sell no matter what. We got an annoying luke Endor tooth sculpt and it sold. Then they can reuse the sculpt for Endor han and the eventual v2 of smuggler han. Something must be holding it up.
I sincerely doubt ford has approval over his likeness for Han Solo. That is all Lucasfilm.
Either way, I would buy 2 so one can have the jacket off and be prisoner han on bespin.
I can?t wait until 2027 for this!

ROTFL!
Yes. So long a wait but I?m sure it will be worth it. Think of all the accessories they could add to this figure besides just a barebones standard version.
-Torture table
-Carbonite block
-Bicep shackles
-Hoth coat
-hydrospanners and tray
-welding goggles
-welding torch
-breather mask

I don’t really care how long it takes as long as it looks like Han this time. If they re-use the sculpt from their ANH cosplay Han I’ll puke.

This would be amazing. I would definitely let them fleece me for a DX Bespin Han. Follow that up with a newly improved Chewbacca with C3PO in pieces on his back, and I’m in heaven.

My guess is it’s a likeness approval issue, especially if Ford has to approve it. If that’s the case, he might be rejecting whatever Hot Toys is sending over, or he may have the prototypes just sitting around until he decides to even take a look at them, which could be a year, two years, or whatever. He probably couldn’t care less. The idea of Hot Toys holding a grudge over a figure being broken on TV makes little to no sense. Nobody even knew it was a HT figure except a handful of collectors. Not to mention the free PR exposure of being able to show Harrison Ford holding your product is invaluable (just edit out the destruction part). Given how much HT has been reusing the Luke and Leia base sculpts, I‘m sure they are itching to get a portrait or two approved, not only for Star Wars, but Indiana Jones and maybe even Blade Runner. Then the flood gates would open— ANH Han (reissue), Bespin Han, Hoth Han, Endor Han, Han in Carbonite, RotA Indiana Jones (Reissue), Tanis Map Room Indy, Temple of Doom Indy, Last Crusade Indy, Deckard.

If this assumption is close, that means sure Ford would have had to have approved the previous HT portraits. However the scope of use was probably limited so HT couldn’t just reuse for variants. Also the current Han (and original Indy for that matter) aren’t that great and there are several much better customs. Of course i could be wrong and the lack of Han figures could fall solely with Hot Toys.

Anyway, whatever the hold up, hopefully it will be resolved soon. The fact that Bespin Han and Baspin Lando continue to go unproduced is crazy.

Why do people think that these actors have to approve the likenesses themselves? Pretty sure in most cases you have to sign over your likeness to the corporate overlords.

Exactly. No idea.

I just laughed or loud at the thought of him having it in his drawer for 2 years waiting to approve it. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

He was happy with the Force Awakens version of himself then.

Ford (nor any other Star Wars Actor) can approve nothing. Lucas made sure of that when he had ever actor sign away their likeness rights to be in the films.

Carrie Fisher even jokes about it in a documentary. Saying every time she looks in the mirror she "owes George a couple bucks".

This has been common knowledge with Star Wars for as long as I remember.

If anything its Disney/Lucasfilm dragging their feet on the approval.

I can guarantee its not Ford.

This reply could be considered ****. I am in for all of that.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Carrie Fisher has said that but it doesn’t mean Ford had the same deal while filming the OT. From what I’ve read, possibly due to the unique circumstances of Ford landing the role, he didn’t have a contract like the rest of the actors. I believe on a New Hope he was even paid weekly.

They all did. Don't kid yourself. Why has there been merchandise of Han and Indy for all these years? And now all the sudden Ford has an issue? Nope.

But do we also think that Harrison Ford would ever care about his likeness for toys? He hates Star Wars, I'm sure if he were approached to approve his likeness he'd just wave it away groaning muttering "yeah whatever, sure".

No, my Theory is HT is waiting till they have a "good enough" sculpt that they can just milk the **** out of the course of both Empire and Jedi. Same as they are doing with Leia and Luke.

I dont think it goes into conspiracy that Ford is refusing the approval. [emoji1]

Exactly. Or refuse ALL of it. Which we are obviously getting Han merchandise from Hasbro (not to mention all the previous 1:6 releases from Sideshow, Medicom and Enterbay....and HT themselves) so to think that there's this big conspiracy is silly.

ALL actors likenesses are included in the Star Wars Master license.

And this has been the case with films heavily marketed for merchandise ever since Star Wars. With very few exceptions.

Yeah,its not a Ford issue.
Most likely HT trying to get the sculpt perfect.
My dream PO for the last quarter 2020 are Bespin Han and Lando and then Padme.
If we keep this thread alive, maybe someone from HT will see it and move ahead with Han.

Should that really take this long though? Mark Hamill has a notoriously difficult face to capture in sculpted likenesses, and I think Hot Toys has delivered the best attempt out of any license holder. The reception has been positive enough that they are confident in pumping out multiple figures based on it.

Let’s assume they’ve given Han at least as much priority and effort as Luke (and Leia). It?s STILL taking this long to produce a decent Harrison likeness?

They either aren't satisfied. Or Disney/Lucasfilm are not satisfied enough to approve. [emoji2369]

And with Luke its been kinda a myth/unconfirmed rumor that all Luke merchandise gets a "idealised" look. As in what Luke might looked like in Empire and Jedi had he not gotten into his accident. But I havent heard if this rumor is confirmed or not.

Would explain why we have never gotten a bang on Hamill likeness.
