War Zone was a great representation of a very particular Punisher. Ennis’s Welcome Back Frank to be precise. It’s over the top, funny, comically violent and easily the best Punisher movie.

Everyone decrying the changes to Franks origins and character in the Netflix show aren’t thinking things through. A series based on a 2 dimensional wild eyed psychotic gunning down litterbugs wouldn’t fly. Netflix did a hell of a job and gave us a more complex nuanced Punisher. I have a feeling it’s only going to get better down the road.

Lundgren's Punisher, the only Punisher film with any balls?

:lol :yess:

I actually expected the series to be as crazy and nightmarish as that movie was.
I mean... that's what I've got from his scenes in DD. He's nuts.
Alas...

In what way he's more complex? 0_o
Just because he has dirty background?
Because he didn't know what to do after he killed all gang members?
Because he's now just A GUY (for no logical reason)?
Please, do tell...

Have to agree, I liked how he was represented in DD season2. A monster / ghost/ an unstoppable killing machine. The first trailer made the show look like it was going to be something different then what it was. I guess I was expecting something more violent? Hardcore? I don’t know..

Personally, I like that the series explores the more human side of Frank. One of my favorite scenes with him from DD season 2 was the graveyard scene. Only manly tears with that one. But to each their own I suppose. Like I previously stated, I doubt a classic Punisher origin story wouldn't work well for a series and I like the changes they've made. But I also do see how different he is from the Frank in the comics. But for the series to not be just a bloody gore fest, they had to give him more depth and to do that they had to take some creative liberties. I also think that some people are missing the fact that they're working up to him being "The Punisher" and that he isn't completely there yet. Now that the origin BS is out of the way, they can concentrate on him being a more focused killer since a majority of the fallout from his personal baggage is now behind him.

I could of done without all the micro family ********.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you haven't read any of Ennis' MAX work because the characterization you're referencing here was a one time crap storyline from the 90's, and the usual summation of the character from people who haven't delved deep. From The Tyger to the End, all of Ennis' MAX run showed a truly complex and nuanced Punisher that this show and Bernthal didn't get at all. Maybe they'll get there and it'll take time, but it definitely wasn't a good start to the character imo. And I'm not saying that because I'm against change. I don't expect him to still be a Vietnam veteran for example. I just didn't care for at all with what they did when Daredevil I felt was a lot truer to the character.

If you're happy and entertained by the interpretation thats cool, but it's misleading to insinuate that he's never been much else until now.

They should’ve done the Punisher Year One storyline if they wanted to do an origins story. Now that was a good story where Frank tried to do the right thing and relied on the police until the system failed him. He had no other option but to take matters into his own hand. The story also showed how tortured he was and he was a sympathetic character in that. The government conspiracy origin just did not work imo.

Best statement made here so far IMO. War zone was terrible but it was about as close as you could get Ennis’ Brilliant comic run translated to a 2 hour movie. Meaning the format just doesn’t work. Ironically I think that a tv series would have been a better format to translate that style and we have seen such with the preacher series. All that being said, that just wouldn’t be finally right for the Netflix MCU series collection. So at the end of the day I think they hit everything on the mark perfectly. Could be my love for the punisher that made me look past it because I’m a critical bastard but in the midst I’d totally enjoying the series and being swept up, my girlfriend who was catching bits of it from me watching it mentioned it was really cheesy, first degree and cliche in parts. I was surprised I didn’t feel that way. It might be true... but I’m too busy fanboying out for the punisher. Best marvel series yet if you ask me. Don’t get the low critic ratings.

Ray Stevenson punisher was great!! Movie was kinda crap! And Thomas Jane was a really good frank castle. I do like JB take but I wish he had more grit. DareDevil season 1 Matt was still trying to find himself and evolve into DD, but he still was busting a** and the hallway fight scene was epic. I’m on episode 9 right now of punisher and unfortunately I don’t think it lives up to DD season1 and 2 pretty much gets left behind like all the other defender characters.

Well, I’m a huge comic fan but not a big Punisher fan. I liked both RS Punisher and TJ Punisher renditions and I liked the movies. Would have welcomed a part duex for either one but again, that’s me not having much history with the character. :huh

...so I might enjoy the NF series when I get around to watching it.

Just a heads-up to anyone still waffling around on getting this figure from Sideshow: it's now on Low Stock Remaining.

I just placed an order myself after noticing this. I've been playing catch-up on some TV this long weekend and just now getting around to watching The Defenders. I'd forgotten how good all these Marvel Netflix series have been.

Netflix has me hooked and I’ve scrolled the thread. Great looking figure but that name plate...think maybe another version on the way with his own series being a hit? Limited stock at SS so I’m wondering if I should just grab this one. Also wanna preorder Anakin so I’m torn.

I love the Netflix Punisher season 1.
Hopefully Hot toys makes another from his own show.
Thid figure looks ok.. but I'm really not fond of the expression on the sculpt. Looks too mild.

Jumped on this and picked one up with reward points. Couldn't pass up on this character and I can't see HT making another figure for the show, the Marvel TV figures haven't exactly been selling the greatest.

Seems like a simple enough figure to customize if I wanted to anyways to get more of the recent show look

Waitlisted.

Does anyone think there might be a new version from his solo series in the works, with larger arsenal, non-trenchcoat look? There was something about this version that was holding me back from hitting the order button.
