I think their plan literally was to hijack the property for their own ends. I can also imagine the in-fighting, coupled with the fan reaction to the attempted hijack, which ended up with the trilogy becoming the mess it was when they tried to limit the damage.
By contrast The Mandalorian is more organically connected to the OT, and to what Star Wars had been for so many years.
(Even though Axe Woves had been locked in the toilet to allow for Fem Force Four, it was Luke who came to save the day, and he didn't even have to kill himself to do it!)
The Mandalorian, for instance, is the antithesis of the Sequel Trilogy. It seems like it actually gives the fans what they want because its creators are fans, rather than writers hijacking Star Wars to use it as a vehicle to promote their ideologies.
It's something rare and special - though I'd personally add Rogue One and Solo too - and should be cherished lest it goes the way of so many other attempts.
There's only one troubling question. Which of the ST writers snuck onto the set of The Mandalorian and locked Axe Woves in the toilet?
The biggest issue with Solo is that awful L3, that droid completely ruins Lando and taints the Millennium Falcon. It borders on ruining the entire movie. There were some things I liked about it for sure, but sadly I'm not sure the good outweighs the bad when I think back on the film.
Also beside Axe Woves it made absolutely zero sense to cut Bill Burr/Mayfeld loose before going after Gideon's ship. He was exactly the type of guy you would want on that mission.

but leaving behind able allies like Greef, Axe, and finally Mayfeld, to make Mando's rescue team all woman, was completley natural, logical and plot driven. Not some forced PC farce to please the higher up. [/sarcasm
LOL , despite it going completley against what the characters and story established, to deliver some ridiculously obvious forced virtue signaling messagey moment, I actually didn't mind the stupid scene, and liked all these characters, would follow them all into their own. Just recognize the ^ scene for what it was.
although It helps that it was followed by one of the greatest character returns in history.
Just makes me laugh when some (not here) pretend it was some subversive radical cinematic break through, while ignoring the likes of Ripley, Connor, and Leia herself who did it with out the LOOK DID YOU NOTICE WE'RE ALL WOMEN flag waving moment, they just were badass, without needing the embarrassingly obvious signaling.

You could look at it from another angle, that they set it up that way to subvert the assumed message. They were all likely to be killed by the army of Dark Troopers... until Luke showed up!
Which ties into Howard Chan's quote about The Mandalorian redeeming Luke from his ST appearance.
On another level: eye candy *.
The more women the merrier in any series or film. Whenever there's an option in a video game to select your character I've always chosen a female. As someone put it somewhere, if you're going to spend hours on end looking at your character's butt I'd rather it was a girl's.
OK so despite the huge discussion about the Bad Batch finale, here are some details on Book of Boba for hopefully a bit of talk about what's coming.
I've put similar details together with the help of an expert for other shows, which I'll post later.
Book of Boba
Episodes: Probably 8 like Mando (unconfirmed) Seasons: 2nd season unconfirmed (reasonable to assume there is, as the cast and crew were all given merchandise with BoB „Season 1“ written on it. Filming: Wrapped, now in post production Due to Air: December 2021 Directors: Robert Rodriguez, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Hargrave Rumoured characters:
Cobb Vanth, Migs Mayfeld, Greef Carga, Din Djarin, Luke Skywalker & Grogu, Black Krrsantan, Hammerhead, Bossk, Cad Bane.
I've also seen in some article that Morrison has said that it's very important for them to please the fans in this show, and apparently Faverau and certain Marvel experience is coming through. I assume that means some sort of payoff in the longer planned story arc, or linking between stories / shows. Which totally makes sense.
Looking at the directors we're in good hands. Trailer is expected in October or so.

Have I ever anticipated a television show this much? I don't think so. I was pretty charged about the Mandalorian but Fett is my favorite character and seeing him get some redemption for the Sarlacc jetpack malfunction has been very satisfying so far. I chalk that ROTJ scene up to one of the many odd choices Lucas made throughout the six films. Fett should've gone into the Sarlacc at the hands of Skywalker or at least a Chewie/Solo double team...It's not like George didn't know the character was popular. Anyway, super excited for this show and the HT toys coming.

Yeah i agree. Seems its going to be more backstory to begin with. ie what happened between Sarlac and Mando I think.
Although really doesn't matter to me so long as they keep the intense action and persona which came in that Mando episode directed by Rodriguez. That was insane.

Excellent post, Andrew. Any way you could incorporate this into the first page of the thread for easy reference, checking updates etc.?
So, going off this my three main hopes for the first season are...
1) Several flashbacks to Jango Fett training Boba as a child. 2) Qi'ra & Crimson Dawn turn up and play a big part in the story, hinting at a future Crimson Dawn project. 3) Tarantino (Robert Rodriguez's best mate) guest directs an episode.
and the top three characters I'd like to see (not including those mentioned in the rumoured character list above) would be...
1) Qi'ra 2) Jaster Mereel (in flashbacks) 3) Omega
