I was trawling through digital copies of old Starlog magazines, and the bottom of the cover for #23, June 1979, stopped me in my tracks. Not only due to the recent discussion of series for Finn and Lando, but I wasn't even sure it actually meant what it sounded like:

The language inside is very dated right from the start, though the topic itself was well intentioned.

But as far as HT figures, you'd think they'll have to reach some sort of threshold with Boba figures. Sure they'll probably have one version per season (like Mando), but I hope they branch out into the additional characters, rather than just Boba. A Cad Bane and some Bounty Hunters and a Qi'ra for Han on the shelf would what I'd be hoping for !!

They're gonna reach some kinda threshold with Boba 1/6?! HAHA, behold yon Iron Man! Honestly I am surprised we have not seen HT Embryonic IM, floating in a tube of clear-resin amniotic fluid. We have not yet seen a free-standing resin DNA chain, either, a la the freestanding arc reactor.

*big sigh*

Instead of such bull**** it'd be nice to see a HT version of the original sinister six bounty hunters. Some of us were not here for the SSC versions, and even if they were I want HT quality as their bodies seem to be strung more tightly.

Speaking of Qi'ra have you seen that mess currently going on in "War of the Bounty Hunters." Qi'ra has plainly lost her mind, which is kinda making me lose any respect for this character. HOO BOY its a mess

That all sounds great, but if/when the Slave 1 is brought up in diologue it better not be referred to as anything else...

They can refer to it as "Barbie's Interstellar Transport" for all I care.

I'll still be referring to it as Slave 1, and so will 99.999% of SW fans. This type of stuff tends to be met with a lot of fan resistance, no matter the franchise and Disney had better recognize.

Or dont, and have their new branding be ignored.

I never really cared when I was young. Lando was awesome. I watched Family Matters, Cosby, In Living Colour. It is just so obvious to anyone when it is clear the character shouldn't exist and is there to check a box. That includes comedic characters like Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd. Wtf? Just make good characters with good actors. Hollywood is so subjective, I'm sure good actors get turned down all the time.

Haha, yeah I knew someone would say something to that affect. But you're probably right. They'll milk him hard !

Haven't read the latest War of the Bounty Hunters. There was so much potential there......feel a bit deflated now.

Personally, I don't think who gets a show should be based on colour or gender at all. If you're a good enough character you deserve it. Lando is a good enough character and deserves it, Finn does not.

As for the Slave 1. It does kind of make me laugh that the majority of the people making these decisions at Disney, such as deciding to be offended by the name Slave 1, are probably disgustingly rich white people. I can't imagine any black person is offended by the name of Boba's ship. Just the fact that someone at Disney made that connection between the word slave and black is more racist than the actual name of the ship imo.

They literally put an arc about slavers in the Bad Batch lol

Seeing Lucas back on set and with the Favreau/Filoni success after the failures of KK Wars, Fil and Fav are untouchable right now. If something were to happen to one of them or they get a project turned down, the golden goose will be gone again and the fans will revolt. Imagine if there was no Mando. This would be a really long dark period of SW.

Whatever they are paying Favreau for The Mandalorian it's not enough. Dude is not only responsible for pulling the Star Wars franchise out of the fire but also in large part the overall success of Disney plus. The Mandalorian is the flagship show of the service and has set the table for all the upcoming shows. If The Mandalorian did not exist their subscriber count would be significantly less.

Dude has done everything pretty good. He does fan service but in a quality and intelligent way. If whoever is running Disney, it is time to give him the keys to SW. Kennedy should just be doing his bidding on the business side. Haven't heard much of her contract that is up in Oct...

I will say that the success of the Rescue is only heightened and more poignant by the contrast provided by treatment of Luke in TLJ. There is a lot to be said between the differences of Luke the Legend and Luke the person. No one wants to see their heroes fallible but Luke always struggled with the Dark Side, inheriting the Skywalker inner conflict. I think the pull is due to the immense affinity they possess. That’s also why Ben/Kylo gets pulled to the light when too deep into the dark side. Skywalkers are too powerful and one with the living force to be restricted to only one side of the force.

The execution was lacking but the concept made a lot of sense to have Luke suffer existential crisis and re-evaluate the relationship of the Jedi and the force. It also makes sense that he would fall into the same trap of the PT since he was collecting relics and texts in recreating his own order. Yoda and Ben didn’t do enough to blame themselves for Vader. They should have warned Luke before committing the same mistakes that led to Kylo.

As clumsy as the execution was and criticizing the reused plot lines of Anakin’s fall, it does rhyme as Lucas would say. It would be interesting to see what Favreau would have done with his own sequel trilogy using similar beats. I always thought Luke caused Snoke’s injuries and the anger and hate he felt worried him so much he exiled himself to prevent a fall to the dark side. And the injury may have gained Snoke sympathy fueling the First Order (similar to Sidious using his injury from Mace to blame the Jedi) which made Luke feel responsible for the current chaos in the galaxy. It should have been Luke’s role to help Rey defeat Kylo and Snoke in the same way Yoda and Obi-wan guided Luke to defeat Vader and the Emperor.

It would be that Luke was waiting for someone to train, someone who could together taken them both. The conflict could still be the disagreement about redeeming Kylo but after Rey leaves on her own (echoing Luke going to Bespin) and sees firsthand Kylo choosing to be Supreme Leader after Snoke is killed she starts to question herself having failed leading to the set up of TROS.

After sitting with it for a while, I think The Mandalorian has moments of sheer greatness, but I still think there's a fair bit of mediocrity and misfires. I believe people love it all the more because the ST was so deeply disappointing on multiple levels.

The only way i wanna see Bane - and is he even still alive at the time of the Mando show? Thinking not - the only way i want to see him is Fett shooting a sizeable hole in that stupid hat of his. Yes, I dared to voice this unpopular opinion! And next Boba can scrag that idiotic droid of his, too.

I’m positive it’ll be a live-action flashback of the “unused” Clone Wars footage so yes, you and I will get what we want there. And I say that in quotes because they ended up just re-animating Hunter over Boba In Bad Batch. It’s pretty obvious at this point to me that the writings on the wall.

Haha I can go with you re: the droid. But I guess he is at least a different droid to the standard ones. But the hat, really. It's what makes him Cad Bane. He's more western than OG Mando ! :)

I just think he'll give a really different look in the display, and stand out because of it.

I guess you could just take the hat off and go the Kojak look. :p

Why stop at his hat? Blast him in the face already.

Of course then Filoni will have him come back with a Mecha-Space-Whale head grafted on.

Was it ever called Slave 1 in the OT or PT? I don't recall honestly and if it's called something else it's not going to ruin anything for me personally... Just seeing that ship again on screen was a dream come true.

I don't think it was ever referred to by name except in the toys. Later in the EU.
