It's kinda hard to make this headsculpt look good in flash photography
because of the gloss layer applied for a sweaty look.

Then some off-camera constant lights can also work, just adjust the white-balance setting of your digicam to match the source. For example, compact fluorescent bulbs in a couple of table lamps. The basic idea is only that you don't want the light source coming from precisely the same angle as your lens is capturing the image, otherwise you will get a harsh reflection back at you.

Lots of people use all kinds of cheaper digicams to great effect. The best starting point IMO: https://strobist.com - and the strobist Flickr group.

Vader is sometimes portrayed far out of scale in the other direction (too big) when it comes to action figures and collectibles. This one is a little bit too small, but not by much. Vader was tall, but he didn't "tower" (like 8 feet tall) above anyone except Ugnauts in the movies. ;) The same is true for Chewbacca, who is taller than the other main characters but still looks only as tall as a tall human, not a circus-freak.

Peter Mayhew was kind of close to that status at 7' 2"... but also Prowes as also quite tall in real life (6' 6") which is only added to by the dome.

The HT Luke is probably a smidge tall... but not bad. Howeve the Medicom Vader is just far to short.

True, the issue is really compounded by some characters being made far too tall, such as Luke. Hamill is not Ford-tall by a long shot (5'9" vs 6'1"). Chewbacca never wore shoes that I saw, but everyone else had some kind of heel. At most, Chewbacca should appear 12"-13" taller than Han on screen. In many shots however it doesn't look anywhere close to that.

The main point I'm trying to make is that neither Vader nor Chewbacca should be quite as tall as some people would like and complain about. It's just not the way it's shown in any of the movies. Obviously this is a difficult problem to tackle when you're producing figures that may be displayed next to those produced by a different company. It's hard enough when your company is producing everything (hello Kenner and Hasbro).

Ssc Vader helm and armor is almost in scale. A bit big but not much. Swapped over to a shorter body makes him look perfect. Prowse/Vader should only be 13 3/16". Prowse was 6'3" ish. Add 2 inch heels and 2 extra inches for the helm and you have 6'7".

Hamill was about 5'7" or 5'8. Add and inch or 2 for boots and you get 5'9". Either way your looking at 11 3/16 or 11 1/4 barefoot or 11 1/2 booted. DX Luke is about 1/4 inch too tall. Luke should come up only to the bottom of vaders chin.

My Vader is 13.5 inches and my old Medi Luke was 11 3/16. Both were almost the right heights.

Isn't that Medi Luke under scaled as well though? :huh :lol

..& the more I look at the Vader customs done on here (no offense intended Jim), the shorter in height bodies don't suit the longer boots, & the proportions tend to look a bit out of whack as a result - kind of similarly with the the waist section & the related parts there.

Therefore - while some of the Vader customs do work to an extent, I feel somewhat obligated to retract my earlier comment in the SSC ESB/ ROTJ Vader thread, about sourcing existing parts to make a better Vader than waiting for SSC's new one. :monkey1 :lol

Actually the Medi Luke is spot on as far as scale. Even the hair fits on the new ht Luke sculpt. It was only a matter of the body being too thin and the face resembling Malcolm McDowell. I shortened my Medi Luke so he actually looks shorter here. The clothes, hair and boots fit well on the ht figure.

As far as Vader. Yes. Some of his parts are a bit too big. Boots, gloves and such. I'm thinking of selling my exclusive ANH to help fund the ESB one. I always like the Jedi look best.
