It will matter. Retailer/etailers won't order as much. I'm sure right now these are being ordered in high numbers. Sellers don't want these sitting taking up space.

These ever increasing prices are definitely going to affect what I buy. They already have: no Sparrow, Indy, Sweeney to name a few. I was going to get Goblin and Platoon, but these newer prices have decided for me.
I say again if they sell out why does it matter to them?

If they sell out why do they care what retailer etailers order they still sold out.:dunno

I only agree with mfoga's point in that for the 1 Sweeney Todd you didn't buy, someone else bought him, hence HT (or whoever) still gets the sale. But for individual collectors, which I am, this blows chunks and I can't help but think it will bite them in the fanny somehow.

i love Star Wars but have never bought a Luke in 1:6... Imperials and Aliens sure, but never a Luke. after seeing Hot Toys offering, this will be my first Luke at whatever price they ask.

Understood. If I make one figure and it sells then I've made my money. However, with rising cost you have less folk buying. At some point they will price these figures to a point where no one will be willing to paying retail, or not enough to sustain overhead.

I think part of the issue is that in order for Hot Toys to get the license, they have to not compete with Sideshow. . . so they have to up the price to set them apart. It's not so much that it's a DX and it costs more, it's that the licensing contract dictates that Hot Toys can only sell 12 inch figures above the $300 mark, to make a clear distinction between Sideshow and Hot Toys. So, Hot Toys throws in everything plus the kitchen sink to make something cost over $300. It's highly likely that in order for Hot Toys to pick up the '89 Batman license, and CR Supes license, Mattel said "They HAVE to be high-end, selling for over $200". Because Mattel already has the 'collector-oriented line' at MattyCollector.com, selling at $60, and perhaps Mattel didn't feel comfortable with Hot Toys selling to the 'collector' market at $160 or even $180.

It's not so much the licensing cost, or development costs, but what the existing license holders dictate as terms of the contract.

This looks...like 2 figures for the price of one similar to the Thriller MJ figure (I haven't kept up with the thread). Since most HT figures are $150 if this hits $300 or slightly higher I'm cool with it but it doesn't mean I'll but right away. The more expensive these are the more selective I'll be.

There is nothing to justify a $ 300 price point someone speculated that would be the price and that's what we have been debating.

God some one says something and it just takes a life of its own.

Based on thier pattern this will be similar to the current or previous releases. The most expensive DX is the joker and we are speculating that this is a result of the actor commanding a greater licensing fee.

Very similar to Superman part of the price increase is due to a percentage being donated to the Christopher reeve foundation. Its $ 200 figure despite the fact that it is not a DX

I'm already frothing for the next announcement...HT drop a bomb of a licence like this and all we have are con pics and rumours from scanned magazines? Gimme an ESB Vader or Han please!

This is where HT needs to be careful on the price, particularly because there is a version of this Luke out already. The 89 Batman and Joker have never been done before. I'm in on both, at their asking price. However, if HT can only "upgrade" what SS has already released, it's a harder sell to me. Do I want it....hell yes. But, people are already dumping SS Bespin Luke. It can be had pretty cheap. I like that cause my collection doesn't have to contain 1/6 mini-me's, just great representations. From the looks so far, SS may have better boots as it is. That will remain to be seen. But you can get a HT slim body, add SS clothes and you are 90% there for maybe 50% of the price. I guess my point is, IF the price is out of line on the SW guys, it will be much easier for a lot of people to stay content with a pretty nice figure they may already have. You can't do that with DX8 & DX9. Chewie/droids will be the same as Batman, but a re-do of Han, a re-do of Leia or a re-do of Luke would seem like wasted efforts. If they don't just have to do re-do's, I'd like to see an X-Wing pilot Luke. DX him too and get the Snowspeeder jacket, boots, gloves, and grappling hook gun extra. Who knows, it can happen.

I expect full spec and pics next week.

Is this something you've heard?

It's logical considering that they happen to skip DX 07 & went straight to DX's 08 & 09. I just want to know if it's facts or speculation so that I may temper my excitement accordingly.

Many of us have said $300 and lot of have used previous prices, that take in consideration the cost of the license and who all has to be paid and how it has more then those figures. We are using logic to come to our estimated price.

The best starting point is HT Indy at $250. It's a LFL license , it's a license they had to pay SS for the right to make it. But now remember they still have to give hasbro it's cut( they lease license to SS) plus SW is going to cost more them Indy. Now add in another head and Indy is not a DX. Tell me how my estimate is off.

It most certainly is a DX, it's DX 05. Do you think every HT release comes with a display base, reversible backdrop, a huge temple pedestal display piece, and two full costumes, plus a ton of accessories? It's about as deluxe as one of their figures gets. The only thing Luke has that this does not is the extra head. So, I would say $275 tops is reasonable, though just barely. $300, and I'll pass on principle alone; Darth-IMPoor makes a dozen good points as to why this figure is simply not that pressing a purchase, and you have to draw the line somewhere.

Ok so they are even there. People keep saying it's just the difference of a head ( I agree $25 for that) but that would mean Indy and SW license are the same price wise and well there is now way that's true. So add in that extra cost and hasbros cut and $300 seems very likely.
