I usually stay out of these types discussions but I, like all of you, have an opinion. I have long looked for the “perfect” Bruce Lee figure. There are some Enterbay Lee’s that I think come pretty close to being just that and some I think are slightly “off.” No matter how you slice it, judging artistically rendered likenesses is always subjective and people perceive them differently. I happen to think the Hot Toys version is very close and I welcome owning it. I applauded Hot Toys for taking on Bruce. He is a very closely connected cultural hero who cinematically overcame the “Sick Men of Asia” stereotype and he should be celebrated in as many ways as possible. Apparently, no one company has a monopoly on Bruce and I look forward to others with the necessary skills to add to his legacy.

For those making the argument that HT shouldn't have done BL because ETB has been doing it well is like saying Nokia and other phone manufacturers shouldn't have taken a stab at making mobile phones because Motorola was making good mobile phones already.

See how absurd that argument is?

both motorola and nokia are makers of mobile phone, and both have their distinct style to their designs. the more apt comparison would be if nokia now suddenly follow the model and design that's uniquely motorola's, only because that particular model has been motorola's best seller.

if that happen people would say nokia is bereft of original idea and just being a copycat instead of a trend setter. i think ht's being stupid.

Yes, but the distinct styles and technology branched out because of competition. It's competition that pushed both manufacturers to up one another in terms of design an functionality. In my example, Motorola has been doing mobile phones before Nokia phones. If nokia didn't step up the plate, or if no other companies did, we would reach mobile phone technology much much slower, if at all if motorola has monopoly on the market.

Same can STILL be said for Bruce Lee's likeness.

Arnie Kim has made excellent head sculpts of Bruce Lee. By your reasoning, Yulli doesn't have the right to make her own BL likeness, using her own talent and unique design since she hasn't worked on BL before. So no other artists should make BL heads, because Arnie Kim has perfected it. In effect, no other company should touch the BL license because Enterbay has that covered and they are god when it comes to BL. I do find that absurd as a consumer and frankly, that argument holds no water.

At the other end of the spectrum, I hope Enterbay starts pissing on HT's territory as well. Their talents are unquestionable, but if they just keep taking their sweet time on everything, then they'll not go very far as a company.

competiton is healthy and good for customers, sure. but two can have a competition without making the same exact thing. if every mobile phone maker start to make the same exact model, then that particular model will look tedious and boring after awhile.

i'm saying there are choices. there are countless faces yulli's talent could immortalize in plastic form. why do the same thing that someone else has done and done well? you want to do bruce lee, fine, wait till his 75th or 80th anniversary. doing it now only makes ht looks like a follower when they should be the one leading.

The only way this item will sell well is if they price it around $185ish. I would assume they will.

Re: Hot Toys's DX04 - Enter the Dragon: Bruce Lee 1/6th scale Collectible Figure

I'll be getting one.

The EB one is nice, but too much to spend on.

Medicoms wast to frail.

The retail is around $190 I think. But online retailers usually have their pre-orders even cheaper... probably around $175.

True, but, they all still belong to the same category, like ordinary mobiles, smartphones, etc. And it still fits in the argument that two companies are making two models (ETB GoD and HT DX-04, MotoQ and E72, but I'm sure there are better examples with similar specs) of the same product category (Bruce Lee's likeness in this case, and smartphone with similar specs in my example). If you don't want mobile phones, we can shift to other products, but the results are still the same. They all still follow economic principles.

Which still brings us to the argument that Yulli doesn't have the right to do her take on BL because someone else does it better. So, why shouldn't she choose BL? Why wait long? Not all leaders are originators. There are a lot of companies that are leading the way in certain industries but are but are certainly not the first in their field.
