I think you can safely say its dead due to the fact that Batman Returns has been released as MMS
It not only has the rolling eyeball system (the trademark of the DX series) but actually has a deluxe version with a whole second figure included and a bonus part.....still labelled as MMS.

DX has just morphed into the standard line rather than them dropping it.

If I was to suggest a character, I'd go for Loki, probably from the first Thor movie seeing as that figure was never made. The helmet, Gungnir... would it be too much to ask for the throne?
