I only saw Ragnarok once and honestly did not enjoy it that much. For a movie about the end of Asgard it was a bit too colorful and comical for my liking. There were never any stakes whatsoever.

I think I'll enjoy it more on my second viewing. Didn't really care for GOTG Vol. 2 in theaters...saw it again on Netflix and I enjoyed it. I'd imagine I'll have a similar experience with Ragnarok the second time around.

Fair enough. Not saying Ragnarok was amazing. I meant more in terms of rehabbing Thor's image -- utilizing Hemsworth's humor and unleashing Thor's potential as the God of Thunder. He's been underpowered for a long time. I just think Taika is the one who gave the Russo's, and us, this version of Thor.

I agree that they DID save Captain America. TWS is still the best MCU movie imo and they somehow made TFA better lol.

Would have been interesting see what would have happened if Thanos and The Black Order turned up at Asgard to get the Tesseract. Presumably that's where they were heading. (That's not a spoiler, we saw it at the end of Ragnarok, lol)

Even with home advantage, and without the confines of a space ship, Thor would be no match, seeing as he couldn't even take down Hela. But I'd have loved to see Thor try and take the fight to Thanos, even without Mjolnir or Stormbreaker

I've seen it 4 times and I barely get through it. Such a waste of the Ragnarok concept

Whatever the off screen reasons might be if there are any that really matter, I don’t really think the eyepatch is a huge issue.

I love Ragnarok. Losing his eye to Hela was a great moment. But the eye scene in IW is a nice bit of character development in its own right.

We know how much Rocket likes collecting cybernetic parts. But he offers one up to Thor without hesitation. This shows how much Rocket has grown as a character, especially from his experiences in Vol. 2. I love that Thor calls him rabbit and he doesn’t mind, even calling him sweet rabbit affectionately here.

This quick exchange really solidifies their relationship and establishes a genuine friendship.

I also think it shows that Thor is ready to move on from the familial drama that plagued him throughout his arc. He is focused entirely on his mission to defeat Thanos.

Yeah I loved the way the movie tied the earth culture between Thor, the Guardians
Do they even have rabbits on other planets?... I suppose if they have raccoons, then anything is possible :lol
, and "The Avengers" (if you can even call them that)...

I loved the whole Star-Lord and Spider-Man dialogue, particularly where Kevin Bacon and Footloose is concerned..

In the trailers, they also had the eye patch in scenes that were after he got the eye from Rocket in the final cut... It's the reverse of what they did with the Ragnarok trailers. One set of trailers tricks us by not giving away that Hela took his eye out, the next tricks us into not giving away that he gets an eye back. In both cases they are pretty significant character spoilers..

But I was waiting for some important significance to come with his new eye.. I don't know the comics, but in the comics didn't his new eye give him some extra abilities or something?

I think that was my point was what did it lead to? He got a new eye, but it was just for looks and did not lead to anything. The yellow eye made him look weird, while the patch gave him a lot of character. Oh well.

If anyone wants to coordinate a pre-order trade for an HT Iron Spider I've got a IW Thor I'll coordinate with you.(BBTS orders only)

PM me if you're interested,
Thanks

I'm crazy torn now. I had planned to get Gladiaor Thor because I liked how different a look it was for Thor, I liked his helmet, and I like the more colorful costume. But, damn this seems way more iconic after seeing the movie. And I don't really need to buy both. Hmmm.

So they establish in Ragnorak that it was never the Hammer that had the power, it was Thor himself, yet he ends up needing the axe to put up a fight against Thanos.

Yes, he is powerful. But the Infinity Gems are the most powerful force in the universe. The power stone would've killed him. He knew he needed something to counter the stones. Plus the Infinity Gauntlet is a weapon. Why would he fight an armed person unarmed?

I just asked the same thing on Reddit and my post got deleted [emoji26]

It undermines the whole hammer story in Ragnarok

Sent from a point in space and time

I just look at it as the weapon channels and distributes his power. Sure he doesn't need it, but it makes it more effective on the battle field or against an enemy like Thanos.

Sure he could electrocute everyone with lightening say. But Thor has almost always had a hammer or some weapon, so I'm fine with it.

The power comes from Thor, not the other way around. This is what they portrayed in Ragnarok. That's all.

But remember that at the end of Ragnarok Thor blasted Hela with the "mother of all lightning bolts" and ultimately she just shrugged it off. So his lightning is great for wiping out armies and lesser villains but against special Asgardians or super titans like Thanos he needs something more.

Based on scientific estimates of how much matter from a neutron star weighs - Mjolinr would have weighed 12 thousand trillion pounds. Imagine Thanos trying to stop an axe that weighed that much.

Yeah as much as I loved Ragnarok and his new look in that movie, I feel a lot more tempted now to get this version. As it just seems even more badass and unique.

I saw the hammer replacement in IW as being similar to the jump from IM3 to AoU, where Tony learns he doesn't need his main tool to necessarily be who he is... but he's also pretty effective when he has the thing, so it's good to get another after the last one blew up. :lol

He need something to get pass the gauntlet. Lightning did not help as i'm sure he put up a real fight before the 1st scene. When Thor threw the axe the gauntlet could not stop it and Thanos had it cranked up to 10 from what it looked like.

Thor is also one of few of our heroes familiar with what the Infinity stones are too.

Edit: As for the power coming from within or enhanced by the weapons, the movies have always been a little unclear with regard to the power of Asgardian weaponry, other than whoever can weild the hammer shall weild the "power of Thor". Aside from Odin giving a glimpse of his power a couple of times (again, how much of that is him or the weapon?), Gungnir never really seemed that special on screen. (I don't know the comics or indeed they mythology to know how special it may or not may be)
