Yeah I’m obviously losing my mind over this. Though I find it confusing and wonder how deep it will go. I don’t think it’s going to be a cash cow license for them .

With HT, a company for example that's had the Pirates license for how many years, and all they do is keep making Sparrow...

...so I expect only a Daniel Craig.

But I hope that the Bond people force their hand and maybe we get a Connery too, and maybe even a villain or two.

I think the days of licenses being a cash cow for Hot Toys are over, which is exactly why you're seeing them starting to branch out.

Pre-pandemic, Star Wars, Marvel and DC was all they needed. They printed money with those three and barely tried anything else. Now Marvel has fizzled down to embers. Post Endgame there's pretty much only been hype for No Way Home and Deadpool. Star Wars has ebbed and flowed lately. DC can't get out of their own way. Keanu's knees are apparently shot I doubt there's much else they can run with him.

Hot Toys needs to start picking up new licenses to keep people interested. Bond is smart - there haven't been a lot of good ones even from the third party scene, so that market is pretty untapped. They can do tactical and suit/tux versions of each Bond and get plenty of use from the license if they're smart about it.

They don't need it to be a cash cow but if they play their cards right, they'll do well with it. They just need to nail the sculpts and not skim on the pistols/accessories.

They’ve been on point a lot more lately than they’ve been off. They so need to nail these though with so many custom options out there for Craig at least. A guy in a suit won’t sell well if that guy isn’t instantly recognizable as Bond.
Problem is Hot Toys has been on the weaker side when it comes to tuxedos and suits. Even Topo has them beat in that department. Their Phoenix Joker suit is really poorly done. Hope they bump it up for this line.

Come on HT, give us the Quantum of Solace finale clothes.
Coolest outfit from Craig's run.

They'd be fools to only run a Craig figure.

It'd make total sense to start with Craig as he's the most relevant Bond and among the best for most people. He appeals to older and newer collectors. And you could do a few different looks.

Connery will get some of the older crowd, Brosnan some of the younger crowd. Dalton and Moore will get the completists. Each Bond has their own iconic looks and much like Iron Man or Batman, they can keep making multiple versions to get the most out of the license they bought.

I thought the suit on the new John Wick was really well done. But the jacket on the Caine figure from the same line isn't the best, so I guess it's hard to say. The suits are such an integral part of Bond's look. They have to know they'd need to get it right.

No one's ever done them all. Not even Sideshow.

It would make a nice challenge. I just don't have that faith in HT. I hope they can earn it back.

Did I mention the Pirates license...?

I think Dalton and Moore are the least likely to be made IMO unless EON requires them to be made. It all depends on how the deal was set really.

Agreed. Having the new TDK Joker, HT need to use whatever factory/team they used on that to make and mass produce the Bond suits. The thinness of the material and how it all lays is probably some of HT best tailoring work to date IMO and they need to carry that onto this Bond license even if it costs more for just a guy in a suit.

I’ve only ever seen the Daniel Craig Bond films. It wasn’t an IP where I went down the rabbit hole of getting into the rest. But I’ve always wanted a well made Craig Casino Royale figure. Love standalone pieces and this would be one of them.

Trust me, I'm salty about the Pirates license too. I get it. I would have killed for a new Davy Jones. I would have been all in on a Hot Toys quality Barbossa. Will and Elizabeth (although I'd guess Knightley might be problematic with her likeness these days). Hell, I'd probably get Norrington.

Hot Toys is frustrating me in a lot of ways lately and I've kind of been hoping for an end game with them as a brand, especially knowing I'm never getting a Raiders Indy, a Wedge, a Piett, and seemingly a Cassian out of them. But something like this ropes me back in. It's smart on their part because it's a shocking license for them to have grabbed for a variety of reasons that have mostly been mentioned already.

It's a big leap for them. If Craig is made well and performs strongly, I could see them diving deep. Think of how many 30/40 year olds grew up with GoldenEye and GoldenEye N64 and would jump on that Brosnan.

not to derail this thread too much, but it wouldn't surprise me if we see a Davy Jones 2.0 from HT now that JND are making a statue of him. Just seems like something HT would do. Or at least pull a teaser that never sees the light of day to try to detract from JND's sales.

Is JND on Hot Toy's radar? Serious question. InArt has obviously ruffled some feathers but it kind of feels like JND isn't taken as the same type of competition for anyone. You just don't see a lot of hyping them up, or companies responding to anything they do.

Not a lot of hyping up on here, but there is on the social media from what I've seen. Many of their statues sell out, at least overseas. It's only in the US where they seem to languish a bit. But, to answer your question, I wouldn't doubt that JND is on HT radar given that Kojun used to be one of their top sculptors and is now Art Director(?) of JND and has his own subline of 1/6 figures within JND called KojunWorks. I think it would be similar to HT teasing their 1/4 Police Shootout T800 when Enterbay released their T2 T800, but instead of trying to go head to head at a larger scale like they did with Enterbay, they just tease their 1/6 2.0. All speculation of course, just a thought and/or hopes :lol

It’s cool to see hot toys branching out to a different license. I’d be interested to see them do a Craig bond and what accessories he would come with. I know it’s unlikely but could imagine if they did some 1/6 cars to pair with Bond. An Aston Martin DB10 paired with Craig Bond would be such a cool display!

They obviously won’t but how amazing who’s it be if they previewed 5 or 6 Bond actor figures at a convention?

Like how they first showed off the RE4 figures.
