Roger has the best villains and songs, and he was always on tv. He had the most fun making them too and I love that he did a commentary for all 7 of his films on bluray.
Gladiators, Blind Date (!) and a Roger Moore Bond was great Saturday viewing for this young feller.

Strong buys for me - Brosnan from Goldeneye, Connery from whatever as long as he looks dapper, DB5 from Jazzinc which they’ll make at some point after they shift from Batman.

The first Bond film I ever saw was on television when I was a young kid -- The Spy Who Loved Me -- which I watched with my family. Roger Moore *was* Bond for me for a good long time although my next film was Thunderball.

I really enjoyed Craig in the role but agree Casino Royale was the best.

I was just wondering…

Has anyone considered the idea that Hot Toys’ new 007 license is for… a _new_ 007?

Legal snarls aside, we know the film producers are prepping a new film and recruiting a new star.

Aren’t Hot Toys more likely to issue figures promoting newer films than legacy characters?

Just wondering…

Given Eon’s really hands on, restrictive approach to these sorts on things I would say absolutely not.

Wich Goldeneye characters we might see? Bond, Alec and Xenia?
Obviously a big “if”…but I do think HT is savvy enough to try and wow us with the first offering. I doubt a tux’d Bond will be their first offering.

The NTTD Bond look certainly has recency bias working for it, but unless he’s loaded with accessories and REALLY well done, I don’t see it being that popular. I’m a huge Bond fan and, on balance, I’m mostly lukewarm on Craig stuff. There are some great sequences and CR is very solid, but felt more Bourne than Bond (this seems to have happened post ~2005 with the Bournefication of characters like Bond, Jack Ryan, Alex Cross, etc.)

So - to answer you - I think either the Dam sequence or Cuba sequence make for strong opening contenders. This would hit the nostalgia factor and also the large but somewhat obscured community of 1/6 military buyers. Throw in the accessories of the mines, watch with laser attachment, etc. and it’s a big win out of the gate.

So you think we will get only James figures? No villans and girls?

Why not?

We have no idea where things stand for the next film. That’s Eon’s “restrictive approach” in action. We only have rumors about casting. As far as we know, a script may already be ready.

Given Hot Toys long lead time, a new Bond figure could very well be what’s being teed up. These licenses take a long time to show fruit. (Ask Joost.) We may have a new 007 film within 3 to 5 years. That’s Hot Toys’ scheduling timeframe as well.

Don’t get me wrong: I want a Connery figure. I just think it’s either gonna be Connery or Craig or someone new. I don’t see them doing any of the other Bonds.

Hell, Dalton was the _only_ actor who actually looked like the Bond in Fleming’s novels. But he’s no fan fave.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Connery but life recently taught me to temper my expectations.

It seems like the standoff between Amazon and Barbara Broccoli might be a reason for hope of a deeper Bond line.
Barbara Broccoli will fight and protect Bind until her last breath so we may not see Bond for some time. Figures and collectibles would be an ideal way to keep him in the consciousness of fans and by extension, the general public.
With Star Wars, Marvel and D.C. becoming more challenging for Hot Toys, the Bond license offers up an opportunity to develop a new line for collectors. This is a line that if done properly should extend beyond just a few figures.

I thought Pierce really hit his stride and established his style with The World Is Not Enough too, and the same for Daniel in Skyfall. Poor Tim never got the chance with a third film.

I grew up watching Moore and Brosnan in their iconic television roles. I always saw Moore as Simon Templar, not Bond. And Brosnan as Remington Steele, not Bond. Heck, Pierce is small, (Cruise-sized) and slight. I thought that even I could beat him up! Bond should be *scary*!

OHMSS was the first departure from Connery’s Bond and I had a hard time accepting whatshisname. But the set pieces in that film were among the best ever seen in any film. So I came around to grudgingly accepting the post -Connery films as light diversions. Until they gave up on the silliness and cast Dalton in a serious film.

That seriousness continued into the Brosnan era until it didn’t. Anyone care for an Aston Martin Vanish that actually vanishes? That’s when Brosnan’s Bond jumped the shark.

Craig brought seriousness back and it was welcome. Nobody wants to go back to Jimmy Bond or any skinny, slight actors.

I hope we get a fresh face. I don’t want a Cillian Murphy or any recognizable actor in that role. Connery worked so well because he was barely known before becoming Bond. (Sorry Darby O’Gill fans!)
