In my experience with collecting HT is when it doesn’t capture the likeness well in photos . It is more often than not more accurate in hand. So I’m still going with my gut and not judge this hs until I see it in hand, because one thing that a photo doesn’t capture is the exact contours of the facial feature including any wrinkles, jawline and the infamous hidden pattern of freckles that HT do to a human character sculpt that give that realistic factor that a video or photo won’t capture because the light won’t pick it up or sometimes the lighting covers up these precise details making it look simple or plain, which in turn changes the look of an expression to something less accurate.

I still think the hair styled right is the key factor of making the sculpt look better. And with each photo I see in hand I know it plays a huge role in it

looking through this and not seeing any picture of the jl version with the hair pulled back ,heres mine
hope it helps but probably wont :lol

just to say the hair was a pleasant surprise on the one i got ,i fully expected and had planned to swap out the hairpiece for the bvs versions ,as most pictures i saw showed it to be sightly oversized and bumpy on the parting ,but ,on mine at least its a lot more natural looking in hand :)

so got a brand new genuine hot toys bvs wonder woman head sculpt spare if anyone is interested :lol

That might be helpful, but only if you could pull the camera back quite a bit further. There's so much lens distortion there that it's hard to know what we're really looking at.

yeah i get that and said as much in my post you quoted :lol

ill give you a clue ... its a dolls head :lol

hope it helps but probably wont

QUOTE]

these aren't much better but the best i can do within my limitations :)

HT own website lists it as a "newly painted sculpt" and not a "newly develped sculpt" as they do for completely new heads.

I'm not sure that is a good example, because the proto and what we got could still be a "new developed sculpt" from the same artists... just not the same from one another; but that is the nature of a protype. In the case of when they say they are using a "newly painted sculpt" they are telling us it is the same sculpt as a previous release but with a different paint app. That is a lot different from the process from pro-type to final product of a brand new sculpt.

Good Lord!

You DO understand that just because it’s the “same” sculpt doesn’t mean both are from the same mold, right?

Hot Toys probably created new molds for the new run using the same base sculpt. It’s virtually impossible to clone molds with 100% accuracy/efficiency. There are always subtle differences just like we’ve seen in later runs of the same figure for years.

It makes perfect sense to me that after the TA run was complete (for now at least) with its xx,xxx number of units that a new fresh mold was ordered removing the sculpted hair line in favor of a smooth base for the rooted hair, etc. and PRESTO, slightly pointier nose, subtle differences elsewhere....same sculpt (and new paint job too!).

These.

Lots of hate in this after the unboxing and videos...

I'm still keeping my preorder and think it looks good enough (to me at least). I don't have any other Wonder Woman and am still looking forward to having her on display as I really enjoy Gal Gadot's portrayal of the character in the movies.

Interesting that the in-hand people are saying not to listen to those that are judging off images. More often than not I find the product looks significantly better in hand than even the Hot Toys supplied promotional material and soft focus videos on YouTube (including the 4K videos).

Geez. This site sometimes... well, same sculpt, new sculpt... looks amazing to me and just like Gal. Can't wait to get her.

Yeah, 4k doesn't mean much when it comes to figure review videos. Always funny to see the person tout the 4k video quality while having a very poor setup. Super bright lights that completely wash out the colors and details. Pretty much worthless :lol

I'll be keeping my order as well. The sculpt looks the same as the TA version to me.

For those who don't collect Star Wars figures, the Jyn Erso head sculpt had a poor likeness out of the box because of the hair sculpt; but when the hair was pulled away from the face (or replaced with the alternate hair sculpt with the hair pulled back), the likeness shone through. Your pictures at least suggest that the hair affects how the WW sculpt likeness is perceived, so thank you for sharing these. :clap

your most welcome:)
glad you found them helpful :duff

Thanks for the video Justin. I like how you say IMO they are the same sculpt, like you are not saying that they are in fact the exact same sculpt. The Jaw shape still looks rounder and wider to me on the Training sculpt (but that's just my opinion). At 0.39 when you put both sculpts facing the ceiling it becomes obvious that the nose on the JL is longer than the Training sculpt. Like I said before I don't think its a totally new sculpt, but looks like changes have been made, most likely unintentionally, like others have mentioned here.

When I saw the video that was what I thought too, it seemed to jump out at me as obvious... but let's take a closer look...
Untitled-2.jpg

As you can see the TA sculpt is tilted back more, her lips even obscure the bottom of her nostrils on the TA version an more of the nose is showing on the JL version. So, the TA may not be actually shorter, just tilled back further. So, I am not sure how definitive the video is of the JL nose actually being longer, even though I agree that from at least an initial look, it sure looked like it is.

I'm not saying they are the same, or that one is longer, I am just saying I can't tell for sure from the video... I think it must be really close... because I think either possibility is possible.

You beat me to it, I was about to write that yes I know the TA sculpt is further back but it still looks longer because of the length of the tip.

I don't think that is the case because the distance from when the end of the nostrils end and when the nose tip ends is greater on JL sculpt. However, the JL nose is closer to the camera so that might be account why it looks longer. Nevertheless, IMO I believe it's longer, at least Justin said it was more pointier and thus, a different shape to the TA one, in his first video he said it was exactly the same.

Nose seems to have come out bigger for sure. Viewing it front on from regular distance it's not going to be noticeable but odd all the same.

Sorry guys, but you all must be pretty bored to be analysing a nose to death !

It is how it is. Like it or not.

Personally I can't wait to get my Wonder Woman, Superman to go with Batman. Going to look epic !

Yeah even if the JL head were tilted back a fraction more, the nose would still appear longer. But it's not just that-- the cheeks on the JL head are clearly more sunken in too, which is contributing to the more gaunt look this seems to have.

Ultimately though, whether the sculpt has been tweaked or if it's just some weird optical illusion created by the rooted hair, it's just isn't working for me nearly as well as the TA head, and doesn't look nearly enough like Gadot for my taste. Which is a bummer, because I was really hoping to upgrade the head on my BVS figure.

Still looking forward for mine to arrive. I still think it looks like Gal and I'm sure it will look amazing in hand. No use in participating in the debate anymore.
