Yeah.. but I'm saying: Make them discounted figures then. imo it'll be pathetic if they rehash a P2 body, repaint the body, add P2 armor, add/remove whatever minor variation that particular character had in the film (like one lost hunter has the shoulder armor but no chestplate, etc.) and then say "$139.99 + s&h. Thank you Chum........P" That would suck imo.
What you have to understand is the cost of making the molds for these figures.
For a NECA figure like the alien, the molds alone can cost tens of thousands of dollars. And that figure has a lot less parts than a regular Hot Toys predator. Of course they re-use many parts, like the articulations themselves, but still, it's a lot of different parts that you need to make molds for. And then you have to factor in costs of research and development, sculpting, painting, etc...
And that's just for the prototype.
Then you have all the material costs, the whole design and packaging, and then the production costs.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these figures didn't make any profit until the second or third run of the same molds. Or, as some have said, some of the profit is used towards financing other endeavors...
For example, the Wolf body is unique. Who knows if they'll use it on another figure. Or the A3 alien. If they make that one accurate, it'll be a one-shot. Imagine the amount of R&D and the costs of tooling for a single figure. And if they make the Giger alien accurate, it'll also be a unique body design. Pretty expensive if you ask me.
I'm sure Medicom's alien is basically financed by their endless japanese heroes figures.
So I'm very happy that HT are releasing more preds and that they sell well. It just means we can have other unique characters.
