I don't see anything melting in his pictures. It seems to be coming apart. The environment can do that to some material.
Prevention is your friend, my friend. Don't know if there is anything floating around my home that would do this, but I do my best to prevent it.

Yeah, but it was you that said he shouldn't have expensive items down on the bottom shelf because there was something harmful low down.
I was just thinking you have hydrofluoric acid mist floating around the floor on your house.

I said I would not put expensive items down low with the display cases he has them in. They do nothing to protect them from anything getting in.

I've just received the replacement belt for my Wolverine figure.. Looks so much better now.

The other belt literally came apart when i was removing it from the loops of the jeans... Heartbreaking. I did manage to salvage the buckle.

It may come down to that, but I hate doing that since I'm very impatient and I like to get everything at once :lol I did come across your eBay listing.

I recently purchased what was billed as the Hot Toys MMS 103 X-Men Origins Wolverine from ebay seller everyday991371; it arrived today, and unfortunately, it appears to be the bootleg that has been making the rounds for the last couple of years. I used PayPal, so I've already opened a case, and I know I'll get my money back, but its disappointing to say the least. The figure looks pretty close, but there were a few "tells" that indicate its a fake:

-stand logo was solid white, whereas the real deal has a gradient color scheme with gray, white, and silver, IIRC
-stand nameplate pops off, where the authentic Hot Toys one is glued down
-wife beater undershirt is too short
-body instruction sheet looks photocopied, and is vacuum-sealed in flimsy plastic (every Hot Toys instruction sheet I've ever seen is in a plastic bag that is taped shut)
-face is overly tan and the beard/mutton chops poorly painted
-side photo seems grainy
-"shipper" box was tape-sealed along the long ends with no contents description (every single figure Hot Toys shipper I've seen is taped along the short ends)
-product box lid is very dark, the Hot Toys logos in the bottom corners are barely visible
-jeans fit poorly and seem too dark in person (they photograph lighter)

I took some photos, sorry for the crappy quality:

So, thoughts ? Definitely a bootleg? As I say, I'm protected thanks to PayPal, wish I'd just waited for one to pop up in the sales thread here. :slap

Yeah, the bootleg would be bad if you paid a "non-bootleg price". If it was cheap enough though, I'd consider just keeping it since I collect toys for fun, not to profit off of later. It'd be cool to have a HT-like Wolverine fig to just mess around with, without fear of damage or getting dirty.

Thanks for the heads up, seriously. I was about to put a bid in on the one they got going currently.

Glad I was able to help someone out; I was suspicious from the start, even asked beforehand if the seller was certain it was the real deal, but after examining it and comparing it with evidence online, it was obvious this was the fake that's been circulating for a while. The details were close, but the overall quality was below what I've come to expect from a genuine Hot Toys product, and the obvious points were the shipper, the instruction sheet, the stand, the head paint, and the wife beater. I shipped it back today, I'll update when I get a refund. If anyone else purchased from this seller (everyday991371), you may want to examine your figure closely.

There is such a thing as bootleg figures, that look JUST LIKE real Hot Toys??? I have seen all kinds of companies make thier own heads and parts, but to copy a figure and box etc...and crap this figure is on my short list to get soon!

Well, not JUST LIKE, but pretty close, in the case of the Origins Wolverine. I believe there was speculation that they may have been factory rejects, among other theories. In hand, the bootleg just didn't "seem right"; close, but not quite Hot Toys quality. One obvious tell was the body instruction sheet: it appeared to be a very poor photocopy, lightly printed and badly folded, and heat-sealed in cellophane.

Don't panic.
I think this is the only full bootleg.
Most headsculpts get bootlegged these days, and on occasion you can buy similar clothing, but this was(To my knowledge anyway), the only full bootleg that was marketed as the real thing.
And even then, i reckon it was because of the huge retail for this figure even now. Someone was just trying to make a few bucks selling bootlegs.
But it has long been identified as to what to look for. And it's never going to happen with Iron Man, or Avengers, etc.
It's unlikely we will ever see any bootleg Sam and Lightcycle sets anytime soon, lol.
